Trump would find that if HE were "moderately respectful", he'd have a lot more people (like myself) supporting him.......

I didn't like George W. Bush as president, but I supported him through his 8 years. He acted "respectful".

Trump is in many ways thinned skinned, impulsive, quick to anger and to seek revenge. Not good traits. I voted for his policies, not his personality. Because Hillary presented an equally bad choice due to her personal issues (e.g. lying, deceitful, untrustworthy, etc.).

I think that as Salena Zito (a journalist for the Wash Times) said. conservatives don't take Trump literally but they take him seriously (regarding his policies). Libs take him literally, but not seriously. I think this is an excellent observation. Conservatives overlooked all of his personal failings and elected him anyway.

So, we should take Trump's statements about nuclear arms buildup as "serious"????? I thought many conservatives rolled their eyes when he said this?

When Trump said deport 11 million illegals, libs took him literally, conservatives too him serious. Conservatives did not believe he would deport 11 million. But they knew he would stop or dramatically slow (you can't completely stop) illegal immigration across our southern border and with our broken visa system.

When Trump said that many Mexicans that comes across the border are drug dealers and rapists, libs took him literally believing that he meant all Mexicans fell into that category. Conservatives took him seriously and believed he would stop the flow of drugs and criminals into the country.

As for the nukes, we desperately need to upgrade our nuclear fleet. It is old and antiquated including the scientists involved in the program. Our nuclear fleet has been a great deterrent to war. Our entire foreign policy of detente (which changed under Reagan), was predicated on our nuclear capability.

Even Putin understand's Trump's comments:

But that's like saying adding more guns to a gun fight will help establish a cease fire. Secondly, don't come out and say "hey world, we are going to build up our nuclear arsenal". If he wanted Putin to know, he could have just texted him since they are big buddies......

Trump is, once again, Imo, starting out with a "huge" position. Remember the tariff threat, 35% of all U.S. goods manufactured in foreign countries and then resold in America. That's not going to happen, but 5% or 10% may happen. In negotiations, you start out with a very high, often ridiculous figure and then settle downward but for still far more than you hoped to get. The opponent feels they got a win.

I think Trump's nuclear comments are in that same vein. Trump does know we need to upgrade our arsenal. But he also knows that Putin call ill afford an "arms" race. It's Trump's way of showing Putin we are still the big boys on the block, again, in my opinion.

Tiger has made it known he is not a liberal. fyi

Tiger plays it very safe. His father was military. But I have followed Tiger's career closely and regard him as the second greatest golfer ever. If not for his injuries, he may have surpassed Jack. And he has generally stayed away from politics. He's a very smart guy. Stanford guy.

But when he does speak on politics it is generally slightly left of center, imo.

I have found your opinion to be pretty whacked so it doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

On some subjects, he is aware of a larger impact and in that aspect might be a little left of center. But he has made it clear in the past his position on taxes, the economy, the military and what type of politician he prefers from an idealogy pov. And that is a conservative. Not right wing by any means though. And he is smart and doesn't let politics affect his professional life and has been friends and golfed with Clinton, both Bush's, Obama and Trump. Good for him.

Well, I too have found your positions to be really whacked out, so we seem to have something in common with each other.

Tiger is a registered Independent. He is a capitalist so that makes him conservative. He supports our military so that makes him conservative.
On the other hand, Tiger spoke at Obama's inauguration. He stated that Obama's victory was "absolutely incredible" and that the president "represents America."

Again, slightly left of center, imo.

********.

Talking to you has to be the most worthless thing in the world. I'm glad I don't do it often.

You do know how many votes Bernie, the avowed socialist got? You do know how far left Hillary moved during the primary on economic issues? Ever heard of Occupy Wall Street? Not all Dems are socialists or democratic socialists, but many, many are, and they are growing in power and in influence. And the Dem party is definitely moving in that direction. Just as the Dem party is becoming the party of secularists according to Dem pollster Charlie Cook. Cook believes secularism hurt the Dems in the Rust Belt. Just yesterday, Obama spoke fairly positively of reparations for blacks but said it was politically impossible. Reparations? Elizabeth Warren is a leader in the Dem party today. She is very, very far left economically.

I honestly don't think many libs on this board know how far left their party is moving and with great speed. JFK was a tax cutter. He would be a Republican today. Hell, Bubba, if he were a young turk today in Arkansas would probably be a Republican. He of welfare reform. He of sentencing reform to put away crack dealers. He of balanced budgets.
