Isn't that sad? I'm usually all geeked about the games and a crabby *** when the lose. Not this year. I've seen this movie too many times before. I can't even work up the energy to get agitated at the pablum that Fits (sic) serves up.

If they win, fine. If they lose, I cannot begin to be surprised

You and the other 1/3 of west lot parking pass owners who didn't bother to come tonight AND were so uninterested that they didn't even bother to sell their passes to somebody else.

DA II no longer means Damien Andersen. It means Dark Ages II - and we're here.

Take 2 zeros off that parking pass fee (down to $6.00) -- and MAYBE you'll fill up the west lot for a night game!!

I did not come today, I don't plan on coming to any more games this season, my friends who are season ticket holders sold their game tix

As long as adam cushing is at ryan field on saturdays, I will not be

And your friends were not the only ones. There were TONS of regulars' season tickets that were full with red.

The fans are capitulating. It's happening right now folks. Phillips better start interviewing now because he's going to be unemployable by the end of this season if this level of fan capitulation doesn't change. Tough to raise money from people giving you the flying bird...

To be clear, I have been a 'Cat fan since 2008, I've attended about 35 games in that time period, I was optimistic through the 5-7 seasons, but this piece of crap season is different.

Especially because we are wasting the talent of Clayton Thorson and JJ, and because I think all of our problems are related to coaching/technique and not talent.

I don't need the staff to be cleaned out, I like Hank a lot, but I will not be at Ryan Field while Adam Cushing is there (maybe Dennis Springer)

So wait a minute...you're fed up after a pair of 5-7 seasons and this one? Son, you need to put in some time...

Yeah but I see what he is saying. We endured much much worse but this is so watered down now and it's almost possible to sleep walk into bowl eligibility. I actually think some of Denny's teams could have won 6 with Pat's weak schedules.

I, too, feel apathy this season. It stinks. I'll still be at the games, because I always go, but my heart's not in it.

Hard to whine about the situation when 2/3rds of the season tickets appear to have been sold to Huskers. The one game I fly in for, was an embarrassment to be one of fewer purple, seeing the typical home crowd sections displaced by a near sea of red.
Really thought there is a good core fan base for NU - be it good seasons and bad ones.
I would somewhat expect to see this towards the end of the season rather than at the beginning.

Almost every seat around me, where I recognize most of the other STHs every game, was taken by red. It was pretty bad.

It must be the economy because we always heard, as Pat says, it's the "next 40 years that count" sell their tickets for cash. I'm already hoping for blizzards and ice storms so I can justify not going to the remaining games. Also agree that Phillips had better shake up things, big time or he can kiss the Big Ten Commissioner job good bye. Guess the attendance for the Indiana game. 25,000, maybe?

Well, as one of the 1/3 that didn't sell my tickets to Nebraska fans, it was sad to see - but not unexpected. You won't see this on TV but the fans were pouring out of the places last week and starting toward the end of the third quarter last night (and those were the fans that actually came back after last week!).

People are giving up on this team. And it's not the kids they're giving up on. They are giving up on Fitz and this staff. They're walking with their feet and this staff is the reason why. Not the kids. You hear it in the parking lot. A lot...

Does anybody know how many fewer season tickets we sold this year vs. last year? I have no evidence to support this but after a "10 win season", one would expect season ticket sales to be UP, right? I actually think they're down. What is the logical conclusion to draw from that?

Yes , feel the same way.

Note to Morty : as you are a big supporter of safe spaces, could you create one for NU football fans?

We were bad in 2013 and 2014, but entertainingly so. Even our worst games were darkly fun (#M00N comes to mind). The four games this year have been almost unwatchable. Mostly incompetent offense and a vanilla defense that bends until it breaks. We have to become palatable to the casual fan, not just the perpetually small group of people who sees watching NU football as some sort of obligation. Anyone who knows football would be disgusted by missed PATs and turnstile line play.

Season tickets are down according to my source. Bowl loss really deflated the balloon by exposing our 10-win fallacy

Speaking of, we already have plane tix from Balt to ORD for Indiana weekend and we are seriously considering remaining in the city, not coming up to the game. Probably wont, but...

I think you have hit it on the head. I told my wife that I was going to give up the tickets in the next year or so and she asked, "What the heck are you going to do? You really like the tailgates." This really is the only reason to go. I think she likes having me gone for hours on end since I left my house at 12:35 and got home at 11. The only palatable prospect for the Indy, Wiscy and the Illinois games is tailgating with a bunch a different guys each game. If the season continues as it has, I think some will drop out since they are casual fans and are looking for entertainment.

I park in the north part of the west lot. I would estimate that only 1/2 of the spots in the northern 1/3 of the west lot were filled. It was a beautiful day and night. Usually for these night games, there are throngs of people milling around, but I would say it was sparse this past Saturday night. When I looked over at the east stands, there were a lot of empty seats.

I have had seats for 20 years and have sat through a lot of bad and some good football. I also went to games in the 70s so I know really bad football. I also have basketball tickets. I told a buddy on Saturday that I would give up the football tickets before the basketball seats.

I think the veneer on Pat Fitzgerald and NU football is gone. Every time there has been a chance to step up, like the excitement before OSU some years back, NU falls flat on its face. The potential relationship to the casual fan is then severed.

It appears to me that Fitz is burned out. He seems tired and like he is fed up with having to come out after each loss and explain.

Thanks. That's my sense. I don't have the facts on this, but that's my sense. Really shows what actual fans think of that "10 win season" that saved everybody's jobs...

Would you like to see a picture I took at 6:20 pm that showed the northern 1/3 of the west lot (except for the single furthest north row and the far west row) TOTALLY empty? I have it. I will email or text it to anyone who can post it...

Yes, saw that too, but it has looked that way for all but a couple games the last 3 years.

I did admire the new pavement job on the west lot. AND the grass between the road and parking lot is in excellent and lush condition, unlike the field turf!

This, completely. Where is the scheme innovation? Why do our best playmakers always get the ball in the exact same, predictable situations that doom them to fail or at least struggle?

I daydream about a Wildcat team that embraces the more mathematically-inclined "David strategies" of always going for it on fourth down in opponent's territory (with a real play, not some nonsense special teams fake) and always going for the two-point conversion.

But Fitz is not that guy for that, so it will likely remain a dream forever.

My guess is Fitz runs a spread offense the way Collins runs a 2-3 zone -- due to what he feels is necessity rather than his preference. Fitz has capital that Collins doesn't have, and he ought to make a decision to go one way or the other. Either shift to a pro-style, multi-RB scheme, or go all out on the spread by hiring an up-and-comer from the Sun Belt and passing in every game like Kafka in the Outback Bowl. There's almost no way the transitional years can look worse than what's on the field now.

If job security is dulling Fitz's Fire, maybe he should circle back and have a motivational chat with Gary Barnett. I bet Gary would happily trade places.
I was having this conversation the other day. In an alternate universe where Barnett never left, Gary would likely just be ready to retire and Fitz just about to take over the head job.

I've recently talked with quite a few long time NU supporters and almost to the man or lady they are saying just about what you expressed. I will likely cut my season tickets in half next season and will not pony up $600 plus for a parking space or any parking space for that matter. Putting a poor and boring product on the field, requiring large cash amounts to park and keeping in place a coaching staff that don't do their jobs, is a deal breaker for me. The fact that NU couldn't sell out a night game against Nebraska should say it all. If that's not enough, then how about the adjacent parking lots being only 2/3 full, or an administration that doesn't require a competent coaching, due to complacency or failure to pay competitive salaries. The marching band seems to be shrinking before our eyes, that doesn't have enough people to carry all of the conference flags, no actual cheerleaders, in fact probably the only group in the Big Ten or elsewhere that lacks a single male. A video board that can only be viewed with binoculars if your seated south of the 50 yard line. Maybe one could overlook some of these, if a winning team would be on the field but obviously that's not the case No Div. I program would put up with a program that produces back to back 5 win seasons and with what this season looks like and doesn't make changes. Maybe when some current verbal commits back off, or when the "crowds" for the Indiana and Illinois games fail to reach 25,000, Phillips, Ryan and the big donors will take notice but I doubt it.
