Matt Rhule when told of Dana's fustration with the tight ends. He can communicate on social media, but not with his assistant coaches. Why is this guy a .500 coach at the college ranks? Beats me.

He said his job now is going to Knicks games with boosters and concerts and boxing matches and making national media appearances, then pout when people point that out, he leaves running the team to his assistants.

Maybe he’s accepted that he’s not a good coach.

Nebraska secured a landmark $5 million name, image, and likeness (NIL) and intellectual property agreement with head football coach Matt Rhule through his LLC, MRJR Ventures. Funded by a donor gift, the deal gives the university rights to monetize Rhule’s "House Rhules" podcast and sell merchandise featuring his likeness. [1, 2]

Agreement Core Structure
    • Upfront Payment: $5 million allocated to Rhule’s LLC for intellectual property and branding rights.
    • Compensation: Rhule is set to earn $13.5 million total in 2026, combining his standard coaching salary and agreement components.
    • Payment Split: Up to 75% of the compensation is paid directly to Rhule, with the remaining balance directed to his LLC.
    • Contract Length: Tied into his extension that runs through the 2032 season. [1, 2, 3, 4]

13.5 million to go 5-7 or 6-7, Whoopee!

I will leave these annual salaries for you’re own reference:

Cig $11.6 million
Smart $13.2 million
Day $12.5 million
Kiffin $13.5 million
Freeman $10 million
Sarkisian $10.8 million
Lanning $11 million

Adept business acumen by NU’s AD and Administration. They LOVE to spread their legs for any schmuck willing to coach this sorry program.

I don't really care about the wins, I care about the competition and who you have beaten. Donors have already sunk 25-30 million into Rhule and his biggest win is against Cincinnati or Colorado? Just imagine if the schedule wasn't so friendly and he had to play Miami or Oklahoma in those games.
People are too worried about 5 or 6 wins when only 3 of those wins are against teams who can fairly compete against us, half of his wins are against lower division opponents and his "fair" competition wins are against Rutgers, Michigan State, Maryland and UCLA after firing a coach mid-season.

This is why I always push to get rid of the scrimmages to start the year, especially when we have such a large league in the big 10. If we had to play peers the incompetence of the coaching staff would be exposed much faster.

I mean, I definitely care about total wins. But I get your point the main issue in regard to wins is that he can’t beat above average teams. Are bowl chances are dependent on how many teams ranked below the top 50 we play.

If his LLC can, and does, pay recruits for NIL it’s a pretty smart setup.

I am not buying into the offseason hype. So far in Fall camp it is the same b$llshite we have heard every Fall camp for the past 12 years. We are “bigger stronger and faster.” “This is our most talented roster in years”. Meanwhile, our true reality as a program is as follows:

Rhule has proven that he can’t coach and only cares about money.
Neither one of our lines is anything but average and lacks quality depth.
Our QB is a turnover machine.
Our running back room is a joke.
A bunch of new coaches (again) putting in new systems.
Lost our best coach. Ekeler.
This team will struggle to win five games. We will win our first three. Then probably beat MSU. We will need to beat Rutgers or Maryland to get to five or six wins. But both those games will be nail biters. We will probably lose to Rutgers since I will be at that game.
The rest are definite losses. Rhule cannot beat teams of equal or greater talent.

Even more puzzling is the fact that it's his ol buddy Sat that's leading that room... even if he's not talking to Dana you'd like he'd talk to the highest paid TE coach in the country who he refused to let go

Why does Matt Rhule need 75% payment from the LLC, which comes from donors? Seems like a scam. Seems like a donor will unwittingly give 1000 dollars to this MR NIL fund and 750 will go straight to Matt, the guy making 10 million will get most of the money from this pool. I assume many fans would be pissed if they knew it wasn't going to players.

Satt is a buddy hire who should've been gone years ago (actually never brought over in the first place). But he's not a top 10 highest paid TE coach now that the school has docked his pay from the $1.4M OC to $550k TE salary.

(1) The DL, absolutely. The OL has depth and experience. Quality is debatable but then again we had a failure of an OL coach.
(2) Colandrea's turnover problems have improved over the years. Hard to say whether that improvement means anything once he hits conference play.
(3) Mainly a defensive issue since we only had Geep come in for our offense (feel free to correct me if I missed anyone).
(4) Special teams was not impressive last year. Calling him the best coach is a stretch.
(5) Depends on how they handle the schedule up to Indiana. Also depends on if they can be competitive in losses to Oregon, Indiana, tOSU, and Iowa.
(6) Like I said, hopefully we don't allow ourselves to be put in a position for Rhule to make stupid choices.

Wait...wasnt the special teams performance last year an incredible turnaround of production from previous seasons?

You are comparing apples to oranges. Matt Rhules university base payment is 8.5. You are including a NIL deal in there that you aren’t doing with the other coaches you referenced.

I know that. However, when you factor in said NIL deal, private flying miles, trips to the Kentucky Derby, UFC fights, NBA games etc. He is compensated relatively equal to all mentioned coaches. The difference is all these coaches at this point in time in the offseason are preparing their teams for the season. And they are in contact with their staff and are working hands on in the day to day football operations. Rhule is a social media influencer.

So you don't believe Rhule is in contact with his staff or is working on day to day football operations? That's a pretty crazy take.

Improvement has been marginal at best from year 1 through year 3. His staff has been a revolving door and he has not only hired but also created more positions to delegate his responsibilities. Also ask yourself the question “why does he look so clueless on game day?”. Probably because he either doesn’t know the game plan or only has a surface understanding of it.

It’s not that hot or crazy of a take.
