I wanted to sleep on this but I am done with Dana. Same old story every year. Piss poor special teams, stupid penalties at critical times, mind blowing play calling simply stupid mistakes/missed opportunities every year.

One game or even one year these things happen but this is a pattern. We will never get to where we want to be with him in charge.

The special teams is concerning, they are absolutely atrocious.

Second, I cannot stand the Spavital hire. We saw the same ****** play calling last night that got his *** fired at A&M. We have 3 good to great running backs and the only time we hand it off is when it's a delay or HB draw.

On a positive note, Our offense came to life in the second half and VT is the best defense we will play all year. We still have a chance for a good season. At least the rest of the Big 12 looks like **** so we have that going for us. Also, Gary Jennings is a stud.

I'm still optimistic about 9-3. We will get D. Long and M. Simms back soon and Grier will continue to hit his stride.

Where to start? You should have slept on it a couple of nights. Every fan went to bed mad but to say your done, ok good so be it.

Bad play calling? Officiating? C'mon give me a break. We did fine offensively. We took what the defense gave us. It was difficult to run, if anything Grier went deep way too many times but not sure that Grier didn't look at his other options or not as he ended up throwing into double and triple coverage at times.

The biggest most glaring problem is special teams, and if I understand it correctly Dana coaches ST. Field position hurt us. We had missed opportunities but what made those worse was where we were on the field. We rarely we able to flip the field and it felt a lot worse or impossible to come back because to do so meant we would have to go the length of the field.

Fix special teams and the next biggest issue is our blown coverages by the secondary.

Dana will probably resign and quit football & try to talk Wesley Snipes into finally making the sequel to Passenger 57 when he learns nvEERs is done with him.

And I got it straight from the horse's mouth that .........Dana is done with you! Besides, did anyone ever tell Dana where we want to be? Step up to the plate and tell the man where we want to be. I would if I knew. I am much more worried about North Korea than I am Holgs. Warez

Here we go with the typical WVU fans. You homers out there should not be obsessed with me. You should ask the other homers why they bail on Hoggy every chance they get.

The play calling was the same last night as its been the last 7 years. If you don't like the hiring of the OC well that's on Dana. It's and example of his poor judgement.

Have you been sleeping under a rock the last year? Dana gave up play calling!!! Who do you recommend as a replacement? I am tired of uneducated fans throwing out their post hating on our coach. He has done more things to educate our players on the history of our state then even our coaches in the past. Most were from West Virginia. (Lets not forget the one that walked out on us) He started the Man Trip. (nvEERs do you even know that that represents) Remember our players use to slap a rope. Now they slap coal. This all a tribute to the hard working West Virginian's. He uses innovation. He was one of the first schools to use advanced GPS based athlete performance tracking. There were only 4 other schools using it when he was. He has used drone technology at practice. He has shown improvement every year. Recruiting is getting better. We will never get the amount of 5 stars Alabama or some of the other top schools gets but some how he has managed to get more of his players to the NFL then coaches we have had before him. Until you understand the challenges we face at West Virginia when it comes to recruitment and money give Dana a break. If we are lucky we will keep him. I would not blame him for leaving with the number of fans that call for his head every year. Wake up come back to reality understand the challenges our coaches and University face. I am proud of the job he is doing and am proud of our school. I am a realist. I love it when we can win 8-10 games a year. That is success and will put you in the top 25 every year. Until you start donating millions of dollars a year to help us catch up to the facilities of the top tier programs shut you mouth sit back and be proud of your school and your team.

I admit I was a Dana hater two years ago. Since then, I realized we have seen steady improvement, he has made changes and adjustments, he is as good as anyone we could hire and to change horses at this point would set the program back five years. The student athletes love playing for him. He never throws anyone under the bus, he accepts responsibility, he has a passion to win and he is competitive. I love his tantrums on the sidelines. I love to see his hair look like Beetlejuice.

Go Dana!

Go Mountaineers!

Let's see if I really read the OP right.
WVU's offense had more yardage against Bud Foster's defense than any team in the past 10 years, so that's "bad" playcalling.
WVU's defense was given a much shorter field than VT's Bud Foster defense throughout the game but gave up less yardage than Bud Foster, considered the #1 defensive coordinator in America by many.
The ONLY problem with WVU was special teams, which handed VT 2 TDs, the difference in the game.
Dropped passes? Yes, early, because Grier and EVERY receiver had never played in a game before. Not so much in the second half, but a bunch.
And perhaps the best receiver of them all was not in the game because of his suspension. He'll be back against East Carolina so Grier can do even more damage.

My nearly two decades as a sportswriter, which makes me a professional analyst, says this team may have an awesome W-L record. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will be major mountains but, by the end of the season, the Big 12/TV schedule-makers may regret having WVU play Oklahoma at the end because the Sooners and Mountaineers might have to play a 2nd game a week later for the Big 12 title.

If you're unhappy with WVU's offense giving Virginia Tech defense its worst whipping in 10 years, there's no hope for you.

I love this team, and it's chances. For starters, I think East Carolina, Delaware and Kansas are facing a formidable QB, one of the best in the country. After all, he's only 7 points from being unbeaten in his college QB career of 7 games. That's not chopped liver.
By the way, Grier's father was the East Carolina QB in his college days, transferring from Richmond.

M angy special teams caused close loss to Virginia Tech, 31-24

Apparently you haven't been watching for a while. It has been determined that all B-Lot members are far superior than our coaches and only allow them to hang around or our amusement. To improve their abilities they need only to buy a yearly subscription to this site and I'm quite sure Vernon would give them a discount, May need to ask Keenan during one of his interviews....

Indeed, Dana gave us a 10-win season last year. At the same time our special teams play has been terrible the whole time he's been here. NO IMPROVEMENT indicates it's
just no important to him or he doesn't realize how to fix it. Don't yell at me - just look on the field.

You nailed It! As one of the wealthiest universities with one of the largest fan bases in the country, we should be in contention for a national championship every season. Throw in the two to three dozen 5-star prospects the state produces every year, and there is no reason for any coach to lose a single game.

Same old story. Coach has no discipline and he's too old to acquire it. A WVU football team can't compete at a high level without discipline, top to bottom.

Unfortunately, Nick Saban is staying at Alabama. Talk about discipline and structure and The Process. 'Bama has it. WVU needs it.
I still think this 2017 team will do well, maybe even challenge Oklahoma and Oklahoma State for the Big 12 title ..... IF Grier stays healthy.

We had a top 3 kicker and top 10 Punter under his watch.... so your statement is wrong

Without discipline? Really?

You didn't realize one of our best WRs sat out the first game.

Dana has sent several good players packing due to team rules violations.
