A new basketball conference was formed last December. There are 6 teams. They each play each other home and away.No fans. The teams are:
Rutgers
UConn
Maryland
Northwestern
SJU
SHU

What do the final standings look like in March?

I was asked this in more general terms. Have at it.

I agree with bac. RU & Maryland are at the top, though I’d give us the edge over them. Did a Big East fan ask you this?

Feels pessimistic on us. I assume we can claim the 3-0 record we currently have vs Maryland and Northwestern. I think we are better than 4-3 against Maryland at home and the rest home and away. We go 8-2 IMO. Complete the Maryland sweep at home, split with two of the others and sweep the 3rd.

Trying to figure out how Northwestern fits with the other five? Why not PSU if doing Big Ten/Big East local comp of seemingly similar quality teams?

Not sure where the RU loss comes from, maybe on the road at SHU but don’t see us losing any of the others

The ties are in order of team quality (i.e. though Rutgers and Maryland get the same projected record, Rutgers is better and would end up outperforming it slightly more often than Maryland)

Rutgers 6-4
Maryland 6-4
Seton Hall 5-5
Connecticut 5-5
Northwestern 4-6
St John's 4-6

Notwithstanding the fact that teams obviously lose games they are favored in, we would likely be underdogs at Maryland, at Seton Hall, and at Connecticut.

News flash: we landed on the moon and we already won at Maryland this season. It is a stupid exercise if we cannot call that a win.

No it's stupid if you do call that a win? You think because we won a game at Maryland we win it 100% of the time?

Why Northwestern? And we did already beat Maryland away so it does seem odd even for a silly exercise. Sorry.

Read the hypothetical: a conference was formed last December, as in December 2020. We beat Maryland there in December 2020. That was the first game of this hypothetical season. There is no other reasonable way of looking at something that objectively happened.

RU centric.....
1.1 wins vs CONN and SHU
1.2 wins vs. MD
1.5 wns vs. NW
1.4 wins vs. SJU

7.3 wins for RU

in other words base case 7-3 with a better chance of 8-2 than 6-4.

If you want your head to spin......
Add Colgate as a 7th team

To be fair, if the question swapped in Penn State for Northwestern, I would say the game at PSU is a loss because that is what happened, even though I think we should have won there.

I had the same thought. BC/Temple/PSU/Nova would be more regional.

Yes, the thing that actually happened where a new conference was formed and ... wait a minute

Hypothetically I’d like to see

NU 8-2
MD 6-4
SJ 4-6
SHU 2-8
UC 0-10

OP is a bandwagon fan. Rooted for UConn all those years we sucked. Now that we're winning again he's back

Even with how we’ve fallen off of late Rutgers is still much better than Maryland

I wouldn't quite say the b word but for a seemingly longtime fan he was conspicuously absent and has re-emerged once things are finally rolling to get his ego stroked. Living in Fairfield Co. had to take its toll over the years being around that fanbase, maybe it resulted in an inferiority complex of sorts.

Northwestern doesn't make much sense so maybe it was supposed to be Northeastern....the other "Huskies" from the New England region.

He actively praised uconn and ridiculed RU saying we could never compete with their university . What was worst was that he aggressively did so and I guess he needed to kiss the asses of his cocktail party mates?? To me he was the typical uconn fan that many have learned to hate do to their unjustified attitude that they're better than anyone else. Turns out they are not by a longshot.

By the way Uconn should not be mentioned in the same category of any BIG school-- their standing is only in the minds of their fat head fans

this is a terrible post and that goes for others attacking RU72. The guy is a longtime RU supporter and fan and these types of posts are way off base

why are you afraid of the truth??? go back in time and if you are unwilling to admit to his negative attitude and his constant attacks on RU , which can not be considered even constructive criticism (there's a time and place for that privately with the AD or school officials) , you have a problem knowing who is a true supporter of RU --do or die fan ??? Many of us who support our school financially and aggressively are happy to publicly defend it , can't accept someone constantly pointing out their own perceived negatives about RU "in public", to the advantage of another school which quite frankly can't compare to RU.

Ru66, simple Q: do you happen to have access to RU’s donation database to make this claim? How would you know what each poster may it may not have donate for done for the U or the program?

Where do I say what anyone is contributing or not- your question is BS --what claim?? By the way there actually was a printed paper book of what everyone contributed by name--they used to send it out yearly to contributors--don't know if it now exists on line or not and I don't care to inquire.
