Hypothetical Scenario?

If Notre Dame finally decides they need to be in a conference for Football and joins the ACC Full Time, and the ACC needs to invite a 16th teams, and West Virginia gets the invite, would you guys be in favor of them taking it?

The reason I ask this is because this scenario could come up. Not in the short term but long term as to what happens with Notre Dame. And if it does there has to be a 16th ACC team. West Virginia makes geographical sense in my opinion. No doubt they'd be the best option to get the invite to go along with Notre Dame both geographically and athetically if that were to occur.

If it were up to me, yes in a heartbeat. Would love to have all the old rivalries back on the schedule on a yearly basis.

Yeah the crazy thing is before 2004 and the conference realignment dominoes fell West Virginia used to share a conference with ACC Members Miami, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Pitt and Syracuse and then shared a conference with Louisville for awhile as well. I can't imagine West Virginia wouldn't get serious consideration if Notre Dame ever jumps in full time.

I doubt Holgs would go along with WV making the trip to the ACC. He is in bed with the Big coaches and knows lots of high school coaches in both Texas and Oklahoma. He pulls players to WV thru these contacts. How do you think he got The Sky? It ain't rocket science .................my friend.

I think the WVU fan base will be unhappy in the ACC or the SEC. I don't recall the fan base being happy when we were an Independent or in the Big East. The last time I recall a happy fan base concerning conference affiliation was when we were in the Southern Conference. And there may have been some grumbling then!

Personally, I would also love to rekindle the match-ups of previous seasons - Miami, VT, Cuse, BC. I also don't care for the distance of the Big 12 . . . or the states of Texas and Oklahoma conference.

But the issue is the current state of the Big 12. Where the Big 12 goofed is they should have expanded to 12 when they added West Virginia. They could have invited Louisville as well and then sprinkled in a team like Rutgers before they hooked up with the Big 10. If they'd have done that they would have stability. But sitting there at 10 members and staring at the prospect of being the only P5 confefence without a Network and no real home run members to add via expansion makes for a difficult situation.

But it's not all doom and gloom because no matter what ends up happening ultimately with the Big 12 I think West Virginia would land in the ACC when the music stopped. If the Big 12 disolved what you would see would be 4 Super Conferences of 16 teams each in my opinion.

What, .... and give up our intense rivalries with TCU, Texas Tech, OK, OK St, Iowa St., etc ............ AND, give up all the air miles the team accumulates. No way.

Tobacco Road schools will never allow WVU to enter the ACC. It's that simple. We know that. We have moved on.

The football schools would force it. WVU would have been invited when Maryland left it we were available. Situations change over time. Just like people saying we were rejected by the SEC - no the SEC went for a better TV market over the better culture fit.

I love the Big 12 on the field, but the dysfunctional relationship is going to likely lead to the demise of the league. So yes we would accept an invite in a heartbeat under the right circumstances. The problem is you'll never get Tobacco Road to vote us in. And they would have company as Pitt & VT would likely block us as well.

Posed this question at the tailgate. Responses below.

1. Never heard of a bad experience from a WVU fan at a game in TX, OK, KS, or in Aimes Iowa. Can't say that about at schools in the ACC. WVU fanbase has a good rep in the Big XII.
2. Other than FSU, Clemson, NC State, and VPI, the ACC is basketball first and crazier for it. I'm a football guy, ie tobacco road can go set fire to its own backside.
3. As dysfunctional as what people clamor about the Big XII, the schools have more tradition and history and FANS than most of the ACC and is probably more stable as a core. Regardless of what people say under their breath the Hatfields need the McCoys, ie Texas and Oklahoma need one another.
4. BOTTOM LINE geography doesn't matter. WVU and the fanbase has more similarities with the cultures of the 9 other schools in the Big XII than probably 10 of the 15 schools in the ACC.
5. Notre Dame is the 50+ year old stuck up ***** that still thinks she's got 20 something looks. Been there done that, not wanting it again. Too high maintenance to deal with. Eventually that school will go B1G after they have a spat with Tobacco Road. That alone is a deal breaker.

Btw nobody in the Big XII has ever cared about what US News and World Report ranked the academics at WVU.. And My 3 engineering degrees from WVU have served me well enough to the point I don't care either. Let the ACC keeps its high academic standards, excluding the chapel hill cheaters of course..

#2 was the only positive comment bout the ACC amongst the crew I'm with.

Absolutely. Built in rivalries with Pitt, VT, Louisville and I believe that 16 conference would surpass the SEC.
