Would you sign up right now for a spot in the NCAA Tournament “Play In” game? I had a good debate about this with a friend of mine and am interested on other thoughts.
February schedule is BRUTALYes, we probably have to go 9-7 in the remaining big 10 schedule with 9 of those on the road. And the 2nd half of the big 10 schedule is a lot more difficult. Let's get the first road win on Tuesday.
In a heartbeat - good OTB article talking about the difficult path we have to 12-8 in the B1G (18-12 overall), which the author thinks locks us up for a berth, which I agree with. At 11-9 in the B1G we'd need 1-2 tourney wins, IMO.

No such thing as a play in game. The tournament field is 68 teams.Would you sign up right now for a spot in the NCAA Tournament “Play In” game? I had a good debate about this with a friend of mine and am interested on other thoughts.
I don’t know. Our NET is going to be poor no matter what so who we beat in the field will probably matter even with a nice looking record. Wins in remaining games versus PSU (2), Maryland (2), NW, and Nebraska can’t help the resume (though losses definitely could hurt). If those are 6 of the 9 wins en route to 12 and then say we beat Michigan, Minnesota and Iowa (let’s say Iowa gets in as a 9 seed - the others don’t make the field). In that example we’d be 12-8 and we’d have home wins over Purdue and Iowa as our only wins over field teams. I’m not sure 21-13 (first round tourney exit) in that type of scenario gets it done given our OOC. To feel safe - I think we’d need a couple more wins over top teams in the conference.Kenpom? Not even used for the selection committee. While the sentiment of the article i agree with..12-8 gets Rutgers in I really dont understand the babbling on about efficiency and Ken Pom

Semantics. Those extra four games are a really stupid tournament format that would never ever exist if not for TV money. This ^
The tournament wouldn't have expanded to 64 teams if not for TV moneySemantics. Those extra four games are a really stupid tournament format that would never ever exist if not for TV money.
I’m just happy they stopped calling the round of 64 the “second round”.
Fair, but at least 64 team brackets make sense lolThe tournament wouldn't have expanded to 64 teams if not for TV money![]()
When those games count in my bracket pool, I'll stop referring to them as the play-in gamesThe tournament wouldn't have expanded to 64 teams if not for TV money![]()
Yes, TV money is the biggest factor. I also think expansion made sense as the NCAA added more Div 1 teams. I think there are 353 Div 1 MBB teams now. I can’t find the historical numbers, but I seem to recall there were like 275 D1 teams in the mid 1970s (I hope someone can confirm what the actual number was). The tournament wouldn't have expanded to 64 teams if not for TV money![]()
One month later we are in 5th place with 3 road wins and I’m definitely not signing up for one of the spots for the Wednesday early games.Right now ? No. We are sitting tied for 3rd and we are on a 4 game winning streak. Further, I’d like to see the first few road games. If we can bring home a couple of road wins in January, I would like to see the team earn its way in with either an at large bid or win the B1G tournament.
