UCLA - Indiana - Louisville - Tennessee
Just about the worst situation ever for me at that time.
Living in Southern Kentucky in the 1980s, I did NOT want UT winning.....I worked around some UT fans and I didn't want to have to listen to their lip service about the greatness of Don DeVoe.
Growing up in L'ville, I did NOT want louavul winning.....all of the UK haters (because there's no such thing as a UL fan) would've had a field day celebrating that title. Probably woulda been vacated at some point down the road, but you get my drift.
Indiana. Eee-gad!! No way!!! I had (and still do) family up this way who were - and still are- corporal bobby knight disciples. I did NOT want private first-*** bobby knight winning that title. IU fans would have celebrated that championship as if they'd won the Big One.
UCLA. Please.....PLEASE not UCLA. Just what they need, another banner to hang from the rafters at Pauley. I didn't want UCLA winning Pac 8 and/or Pac 10 titles back then, much less NIT or NCAA titles. No way!!! NOT the Bruins!!!
In the end, I - very grudgingly and reluctantly - chose to pull for UCLA.
Smart choice.
UCLA beat the corporal in the title game. IIRC, UT beat louavul for 3rd place.
Even though it was only the NIT, I still had to have a vested interest and a certain team to pull for. One of the absolute few times I ever cheered for UCLA.

More probable than Kentucky right now. Even the Wildcats had to start somewhere, even if was in the last century.
I don't know any UT fans so they don't bother me like they do some. I actually link Admiral. It will be fun to watch him and travis reid battle.

Tennessee cost me winning the entire ESPN Tournament Challenge years ago when they blew a 10 point lead in the Sweet 16 with 2 minutes left.
I ended up finishing 4th in the entire country.

Glad to see that many of our fans are making the non-emotional choice here by going with Tennessee. What their fans say to us is irrelevant to Duke gaining their 6th title or UNC gaining their 7th title. It's like fans saying they'd take UCLA over Indiana in such a scenario? The point is to dominate opposition in all-time accumulation of hardware, not to protect the feeble emotional structure of a middle-aged man.
I'd take any program over UCLA. The point is to catch them in all-time titles. They still represent enemy #1. Thank goodness they've been largely irrelevant since Wooden.
