I remember when Hyman first came in, he strongly inferred that he was misled about our fiscal situation. He also expressed extreme surprise over the fact that SC had never created and developed a master plan for athletic facilities. When Hyman left, he had created a true master plan and reversed our financial situation to a positive, solidifying himself as the best AD we ever had.

I'm now beginning to wonder if Donati does not feel exactly the same. Who in their right mind would leave a wealthy private school in Texas to assume the mantle of this mess. Tanner was/is an abomination. The BOT would have been smart to adhere to Hyman's recommendation not to hire Tanner as AD. Of course, our *BOT* and *smart* in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

Well, Donati's predecessor admitted that he had underestimated the importance of adding premium seating to the stadium and wished he had emphasized it sooner. That ought to tell you something.

Donati will be looking for a baseball coach this offseason, looking for a basketball coach next offseason and possibly looking for a football coach if this team doesnt perform this fall. His AD skills (hiring ability) are going to be put to the test soon.

It might be too much to do all 3 at once. Wonder if he would postpone one if he could.

He has to be counting on Beamer winning at least 6 games and going to some crap bowl. That will let him put off a football coach search for at least a year.

Kent State, Towson, Miss State, UK, UF and Arkansas should all be wins. Throw in another upset or two, who knows how good OU or Tennessee might be this season, and Beamer could be looking at 7 or 8 wins and hope will spring anew. aTm is always schizophrenic, they might choke at WB. A win over Clemson would probably get Beamer a raise and extension.

I hesitate to write off UK or UF. New staffs make them unpredictable.

The UF win is not a smart prediction. UF is always talented. Since we've been in the SEC, I can think of only 1 SC team that had more talent on the field than UF. The one that won the SECE.

I don't think JD will stay more than a few years - if that. It's too much of a mess.

I think you give him his full five years. By then, you'll see where he's going. I see things in his background that suit the modern template. For the most part, he was dealt an ultra crappy hand, and adding two more heavyweights to the league did him no favors.

And while coach hiring (especially in the more visible sports) gets the most attention, a master plan is just as (if not more) important than coaching hires.

@sclawman77 predicts that 1 search will be done for each of the next 3 off-seasons. And that is your postponement.
To follow up, I would not be surprised if the AD is quietly researching coaches for all three mention sports, but will pull the trigger only once each off-season for the next three years.
