I've never had less conviction on where our record will end up. I have no idea (my best guess is a floor of 5 wins, ceiling of 8-9. How's that for NO conviction? Lol).
1. Colandrea is a wild card.
2. RB room is light - but a new OL may help?
3. OL and DL coaches are new - Room for hope - but who knows
4. DC has to be better than the abomination last year - but will it take time? Does he have the bodies?
There is so much room for negativity (Sorry Rhule, you've disappointed) and yet also reason for hope (new coaches, a few transfers).

Neighbor’s kid will be a HS senior, 6ft4 and 330-335 football player Plays OL. Started at OT but was routinely outmaneuvered by smaller DEs who were quick. Switched to G and improved but pushed around by DTs with decent weight who would get leverage. Looks like a monster on the field but has the agility of a hippopotamus.
MOTS: size is important but it’s only a starting point. Technique, agility, athletic ability, power will determine effectiveness.
Colandrea will be a deciding factor IF our defense is even modestly improved. Gonna be fun to watch IMO.
I am sure the first 3 games will prove nothing, unless it is something bad. New insight into this year’s team won’t be available until conference play starts. Then we have two games that we really need to win and will be favored: MSU and Maryland. Lose either, and bowl game becomes unlikely. If we do beat them, did we look like clearly the better team? How did the OL and DL look? Are we productive running and passing? Can the defense get stops?
It won’t prove anything but could avoid serious red flags - like when our lines were barely holding their own vs Northern Iowa a couple of years ago.
I thought about the bold statement from your post. The last time Nebraska won one they shouldn't have won was November 7, 2015 v #6 Michigan St.
Looking at this year's schedule, who is the team Nebraska beats but probably shoudn't? Indiana, Oregon, Washington, Ohio St, Iowa?
For shlts and giggles, let's say Iowa. I think Iowa has won 11 out of the last 13 v Nebraska. Rhule can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. So why Iowa? The 2 wins v Iowa in the last 13 games were played in Iowa City as is the 2026 game. That's all I can come up with - Rhule has proven he doesn't win games v teams he shouldn't beat.
Maryland played us tough last year and will be improved this year. That is no easy win in my book. Illinois might be down a bit this year having a new QB. With the depth we now have, and a better DC, 8 wins is possible. How our O line comes together, and improvement in the run defense, could make a big difference. GBR
I mean they weren't stupid. They knew that the big 8 was abysmal outside of OU until 1990. They knew that there would be one interesting non-con, maybe Okie state would be ranked, and then they had to beat OU and win a big bowl. He lost 7 straight bowl games, and lost often to OU. Having Kansas State, Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska be really good at the same time like in 90-95 was weird and somebody should look into why.
He got put on skates play after play last year. Complaining about RVP's complete inability to be competitive against the run was one of my main gameday activities. I'm willing to give everyone a clean slate this year, but he was flat bad in '25. I just don't see him as a DT, and he's nowhere close to being twitchy enough to play edge. Hope he looks different.Have you watched him play the game of football?

Yes, but you have to look at who coached in those two wins. An unhinged Pelini who just didn’t give a **** anymore and MJ who also had nothing to lose.
It’s going to be a tough game - crowd will be juiced for opening B1G game and Fitz. I’m only hoping that our 4th year coach can beat a guy just starting with his team. If we get beat it will be baaaaaad news bears!!!!
They play Notre Dame week before us. Not a bad thing.

Rutgers is on the road, so I think how well the Huskers play in New Jersey depends on how well they play against the Huskies at home and Illinois on the road. I think the Huskers are going to be a big underdog to IU and Oregon so if they don't play well against Washington and Illinois, the Huskers at that point may be beyond the point of no return. I think the Husker will finish the regular season 7-5 or 6-6.
It's been said but I think you have to circle the Michigan State game. First conference game on the road after likely starting the year 3-0. Gut check time...

Back in high school we had a rival team that was bigger than us. They had the size on probably every team in the league. We had the other attributes that you mentioned. Oh and we weren't THAT much smaller. The closest game we had in three years we beat them by 30 or something lol.

here that is actually based on stats and not hopium. If these guys stay healthy, we should be ok. The “depth” ain’t there in my estimations.

I remember quite well. Both MSU and Maryland were close games that we managed to win. I remember thinking that was maybe a good sign that they have learned how to beat the bad B1G teams. But then they lost to Minn and PSU, and I stopped thinking that.
This year, I need to see them beat both MSU and Maryland without 2nd half drama in order feel good going forward. I am preparing myself for disappointment.
