Yep, we lost by 2 last night. All evidence points to us losing every road game the rest of the season. Clearly it's too big of a gap to bridge.

I couldn't care less about Miles, he can take care of himself whatever happens. If he's not here next year fine, I'll be just as excited as anyone to hire a potentially better coach. Some of you seem to equate any positivity or support of the team for "slobbering over Miles". I think Watson, Palmer, Copeland, Roby, etc have been fantastic players for your school who HAVE already won big games in their career. I believe in the players I mentioned to win a few MORE big games this year. I just think it's silly to say they can't win big games when they already have. But just keep moving the bar.

NebraskaBall is a few plays away from being a 1 loss team and ranked in the top 10. Provided they continue to grow and find bench depth, this team will win its first NCAA tournament game ever, maybe two ...

Didn't see the game, don't know exactly what caused the loss, but - somehow, some way you have got to be able to win some road games . . .

I'm not sure this team can . . .

We'll beat Illinois and/or Rutgers on the road. Maybe Penn State. That's it for winnable road games.

The question is whether we can pull off wins at home against the upper-tier conference teams like MSU, Ohio State, and Wisconsin. We need to have some quality conference wins on our resume.

Penn St may be more difficult than Iowa. We can beat Iowa, just need to play defense like we did against Creighton on the road..

Harvey Caray, you watching Iowa get drilled right now and no bench points...

They don’t play defense... Iowa is way over rated..

We'll see. Miles is 0-5 in road games against Iowa. I guess he was 0-6 too vs Creighton before this year, but big difference between home and road. Miles has a very sub-par record in road games against good teams in his career. And Iowa will be playing with a sense of urgency after starting conference play 0-3.

Not sure Iowa is a good team. The verdict is still out..
Nebraska hasn’t played Iowa every year on the road since Miles has been here either..but duly noted..

The simple fact is that this team is very talented, just not deep, but Miles teams historically lose games that they could & should win & rarely ever win games that they should lose. On top of all of that, they are a 20pt better team at home.= Coaching

I wonder if the fans of Wisconsin are having a meltdown because their team lost to Minnesota AT HOME?! Or how about ranked Iowa losing on the road to unranked Purdue.

They must suck. Have choked. All that stuff.

I'm not a Miles fan by any stretch of the imagination, but what are the games he "should lose"?

NU won at Clemson this year. They blew out Michigan last year and won at Wisconsin. Two years ago, a pretty bad Nebraska team won at Maryland and at Indiana. NU also beat Michigan State on the road in 2016. Those really seem like games NU should lose, until they win them.

I guarantee you Wisconsin fans are a little freaked out by losing at home to MN, especially on the heels of losing to Western KY. OTOH, they have two really good wins at this point against OU and NC State. At Iowa is currently another high quality win, depending on how Iowa finishes. All of those wins are currently more impressive than any win NU has.

I think some people are not seeing the big picture. The goal for this NU team should not be to sneak into the NCAA tournament as an 8-10 seed and MAYBE finally get a win. This is a team that won 22 games last year, finished 4th in the B1G, and returned every key player. They are highly skilled and one of the most experienced teams in the nation. The goal for this team SHOULD BE to challenge for the conference title, and to be playing the SECOND weekend of the NCAA tournament.

I posted long before the season started that a VERY under appreciated guy that this team was going to miss was Evan Taylor. He gave us tremendous defense, good rebounding, and the occasional clutch shot and I wasn't sure we had the guy to replace him. I was hoping Nana could be that guy but so far he hasn't shown the consistency to me that Taylor did and we miss him. Losing Jordy while I know he had issues, eliminated a guy who could bang with teams like Maryland and Minnesota. Basketball is a team sport and this team has a gaping hole in the paint. IMO, Borchardt needs to play more minutes because every time I've gotten to see them play I believe we're better with him on the floor against physical teams. I liked the way we played with him and Roby playing together against Maryland.

Amir Harris was looking like the guy that could possibly replace Evan Taylor's minutes / production. Getting mono didn't help, and Akenten has been too inconsistent at this point as a replacement.

Count me among those impressed with Borchart. To my untrained eye, he is an upgrade over Jordy. I forgot about Harris. Hopefully he gets back to full strength soon enough to contribute.

Side note, Miles should plan to use all 10 fouls allotted to Borchart and Heiman and just foul Happ anytime he gets the ball near the basket when we play Wisconsin.

I wonder if this will start to happen more and more with Happ. I also wonder when he will graduate.

Feathers in Miles cap. There’s only so much time justified for underperformance with the facilities & fan support NU basketball has.

If Miles got this job in the 1980, he would do 25 years at NU with similar seasons...he is, by all accounts, likeable and personable, no one really cared about NU basketball and there really wasn't tons of media coverage or expectations.

Put this loss in the Crying Shame corner next to the Minnesota loss - golden opportunity what slipped away. Hope it doesn't get crowded in that corner. Don't think it will.

Prediction machines on Husker Big Ten record...
KenPom ... 14-6
ESPN ... 14-6
Warren Nolan ... 16-4

Wonder what will happen.

That sounds a lot like what people (including me) were saying right before Solich got fired. I honestly believe that the NU basketball job would attract good candidates if it were to open due to the factors you mentioned, but it's not like it's guaranteed that a new coach would be better. I'll bet Illinois fans thought it was a slam dunk to fire Weber and hire Groce. Again... I don't want to get hung up on the coach, I'm going to enjoy the fight in this team. Looking forward to Sunday's game.

Illini fan here...Not really.

Yes, we wanted Weber gone but Groce was not the fans first choice...
Brad Stevens was 1A
Shaka Smart was 1B
After that it was sort of a hodge podge of names.

Not sure what he meant by “should lose” but since the start of last year we are now 1-12 against group 1 teams.

Perhaps that’s what he meant. We certainly need to do better against the upper tier. We will have a lot more oppurtunuties to rack up good wins starting Sunday. Starting out 1-3 may tighten the noose a bit.

Me too but I can't get the bet down anywhere.

KenPom actually predicts us to come out 7th in conference at 11-9. The other two don't actually predict the final standings.

Pomeroy and ESPN post probabilities for each game and Pomeroy and Nolan post scores for each game assigning Ws and Ls. I counted ESPN's probabilities then counted KenPom/Nolan individual Ws and Ls. That's where my numbers came from.

Only Pomeroy goes that step further posting conference records and does so by combining the individual probabilities applying proper statistical methods which often gives a different result than simply counting the Ws and Ls. Statistics - boo.

Either way, I counted their game by game prediction and posted those numbers. Because I can.
