in the SEC doesn’t it usually just mean more in sports they are typically good at-football, baseball?
It’s a good win by Nebraska and helps now and down the line at the end of the year for seeding if the season goes well.

First 3-4 weeks is not a huge deal in the long run. Gotta figure some things out, learn, and then go forward with a clear plan. Early wins against traditional powerhouses can wipe out toe stubbings

Aside from football and basketball there should be no mandatory conference schedules. Everyone makes their own schedule and then meets at the end of the season for the conference tournament to decide the conf champion. Seeding can be based on RPI or by the league.
There is no reason why a big ten baseball team hoping to compete nationally should have their RPI and recruiting decimated by playing a conf schedule.
Likewise there is no reason for Rutgers or Penn State to play USC or UCLA in any sport other than football or basketball unless the schools decide
Play your schedule and we will see everyone at the end of the year for the conf tourney.

The problem becomes finding teams from other conferences to play on weekends in Lincoln. I don’t think your idea is feasible
I'm waiting for FBS football to separate itself from the NCAA. That's when the conferences could re-form for the Olympic sports — think Big Eight, the 10-team SEC, the 9-team ACC, the Metro Conference, the Big East, the Pac-10, the old WAC, etc.
As it is, you play more non-con games then conference. What I'd rather see is Nebraska somehow convince the league to start the season with a conference series in a dome. Nebraska needs a tuneup and a 3-gamer with the hapless, winless (so far) gophers would have been good. Then you try and find a better team in May. Nebraska typically plays a non-conference series that month as is (Arizona State in 2019 for example). Maybe they could find another, maybe not.
^^^ yep. Here hoping Franklin does *just* good enough to stay around for awhile while HCMR rebuilds us back to National Prominence. I’d even take being competitive within our division, lol…
At the end of the day, if we all knew ahead of time that he was gonna get the job done but STILL be gone to Pedo-SU in 3 years and try and BURY us competitively after the fact, who here wouldn’t still take that?
That April or May non-conference weekend series isn't always a guarantee since there are an odd number of conference teams. Once conference season starts, someone is (or multiple teams are) playing out of conference on a given weekend.
This year, that conference bye weekend is March 31-April 2. Our opponent(s) that weekend are a double header on April 1 at Abilene Christian and vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Abilene. Not the marquee opponent you're describing.
But yes, being able to get Arizona State here a few years ago was awesome. They were coached by Indiana's former coach and fully embraced gorilla ball.
I think what would be neat is to leverage USC/UCLA plus the dome in Minneapolis like they do now for a bunch of games. Maybe coordinate it with spring break at Big Ten schools to get two three-game weekend series and a pair of midweek games. I know Nebraska did somewhat of a "California tour" a few seasons ago.
EDIT: And Nebraska did an "Indiana tour" a few years ago, too, during spring breaks and played a pair of Missouri Valley teams either ahead of or after playing at Purdue.
Nice area too, but man northern Colorado is getting sooooooooo overcrowded. The small towns are all turning into ex-urbs.
