Interesting. He had a nice year, but UCONN has fallen.

Memphis and UCONN’s hires show how truly middle tier those programs are now.

Supposedly was a candidate for Pitt. I would have waited for that job. UConn won't compete in C-USA with no other teams around them.

I’m surprised he took the job but don’t think UConn could have done any better.

I think that he was honestly the best available guy for them. Good coach, but man have times changed for that program...

This has probably been covered, buy why is UConn not in the Big East?

I'm going to UConn dental for the next four years, so I'm glad they're mediocre in basketball now. I can adopt them as a second, non competing little team now that they won't be stealing any more of our championships.

I think football plays the biggest part. After the realignment the Big East private catholic schools kinda just formed into a basketball dominate conference. Some current Big East members have lower level football programs, but UCONN from my understanding has been insistent on keeping a higher level football program alive. However, they're not very good at it and add no value to a conference to do a basketball Big East/football other conference deal.

This is crazy to me. Not that I think Hurley is a bad hire, he has a decent track record and who knows what he is capable of at UConn.

But just a few years ago, fresh off their 4th national championship, many people conveyed the notion that UConn is on the brink of bottom-tier Blue Blood status, joining the likes of Duke. They were wrong.

Fast forward to today, they are in a terrible conference, and Dan Hurley was the best they could do for a coach.

This, to me, is further testament on how dominant of a program Kentucky really is. Era after era, from The Baron to Cal, we compete at the highest level. There have been hiccups along the way, but we always bounce back with a vengeance. Our tradition, year after year, withstands the test of time. Not many programs can say that.

UConn went from the brink of being a blue blood to the brink of becoming an irrelevant mid-major.

They are closer to Indiana than Duke now.

Good hire. UConn’s four titles in 16 years is pretty incredible. To go from from zero to four in that stretch is wild. Kansas still hasn’t got to four.

I think they have only made the Final Four one time and not won the whole thing and that was 2009.

Marshall at Wichita
Cronin at Cincy
Sampson at Houston
Penny at Memphis
Hurley at UConn
Jankovich(trained by Larry Brown) at SMU has recruited well

The AAC is slowly becoming a pretty good/talented basketball conference. If Penny can bring 5-stars to Memphis and Hurley gets UConn back in the top 25...that will be a very formidable conference.

Nice hire by Uconn.

Hurley is a basketball coach and junkie from a basketball family. His life and basketball life has been forged in that part of world.

Combine those roots with the brand name of Uconn and he'll be able to haul in some nice talent. I see him reestablishing the Huskies as a basketball destination and respected program.

Yeah. They didn't interview me.

Maybe they didn't believe a guy from MA claiming he was from Kentucky and would love to go back and practice there.
So will you root for Uconn after you finish your Doctorate lite?

But kevin Ollie was doing so well. He had a championship handed to him with Calhouns players. He should of had atleast 10 more years left to turn the corner

I will root for Kentucky forever and always.

And if I was supposed to get a doctorate lite, I've really been gypped; at UCONN, dent/med take all the classes together, and then dent has additional hand skill work at night.

Now *after* earning the doctorate, when they're in residency making 50k to take 24 hr call and I'm making market value on 4 days a week...

...okay yeah, now I get it. Lite is fair enough.

Congrats. Is it 4 years because there’s some med school involved?
