I find myself with less time to hunt as I’ve gotten older - kids, grandkids, work, etc... So I’m working harder to be smart about it and pay more attention to barometric pressure changes to take advantage of my time in the woods. Here’s what I want to know from the pack - is it best to catch the pressure as it’s falling or as it’s rising? Or does it matter? Do you just want a change in pressure either way? Also I’m using weather underground for my pressure forecasts. I like it since it gives an hourly forecast. But I’d there a better source or app I’m missing ?

When is the rut in your area? Reserve a time when it's a sunny, crispy-cool mid-morning hunt. If you really want to know what makes a difference, wait until all the 4-wheelers and sxs's have disappeared.

Best to hunt as pressure is rising --- 30.02 barometric the absolute best. I can tell you that the next few days are looking really good for central MS

Agreed. If you got the time, tomorrow morning would probably be one of the best days so far this year. Got about a big temp drop in the morning and where I hunt (copiah county) they should be starting to pre-rut. I plan to get in early and sit for a good while.

Rising pressure they tend to move around. Oftentimes I see them eating more when the pressure starts falling.

Deer hunting shows and websites (and science) will tell you that rising pressure usually means calm weather, sunny and low wind - that is good for deer movement. This season, I've watched the pressure to see how it correlates with deer movement, I haven't found much correlation...yet. Add some colder than usual temps to the sun and low wind and you should have a good chance at seeing deer. But my thought is go when you can go, if you wait for the perfect conditions, you may waste the season.

I’m not against the hunter doing everything he can do to improve his hunting ability but I feel like corn feeders are just over the line. First of all by baiting we aren’t improving our skills as hunters, we are altering the deers behavior. When we make a wild animal reliant or dependent on humans for food we are slowly domesticating the animals. Another issue that I have is that the deer are going to the corn so the landowner or club that spends the most on corn are going to have the majority of the deer at the expense of the smaller landowner who isn’t dumping corn on the ground. This is a turkey story rather than a deer story but it still applies. About ten years ago I belonged to a club that had 1500+ acres of prime turkey habitat and only three of the members were turkey hunters. We had an abundance of turkeys, to many actually. We really needed a hen season or a fall season but that’s another story. All of the sudden one turkey season there was no turkeys. What few turkeys that roosted would fly off instead of flying down. The three of us that turkey hunted were perplexed what had changed. We eventually heard that the neighboring property had changed lease holders and the new club was baiting the birds. When I say baiting I’m not talking about a couple of automatic feeders, they brought dump trucks full of corn in and set the gates to spread and graveled the edges of food plots with corn. I guess that gave me a biased view of hunting over corn. That was their one and only year as lease holders but it took years for the birds to fully return to our property.

How has it hurt you? Statewide, the deer wide has never been in better shape.
It hasn’t hurt me, I just think that in the long run it’s a mistake. Were I still hunting regularly I would be doing it as well because if I didn’t I would be putting myself at a severe disadvantage.

You know you don’t have to do it. How dare we make it where maybe more deer are harvested each year because the population is in such danger.

We don’t bait. We do have food plots but that’s more to help them get through the winter with something to eat but if people want to bait, let them bait.

What about rattling some antlers? What about a decoy? Had a friend kill a buck with a decoy the other day. Maybe we shouldn’t use rifles, or crossbows, or even compound bows. Spears and knives or bare hands. Yeah there we go...bare hands. The only sporting way to do it right?

I'm gonna go ahead and say it. You turned into a real *******, after getting your mod status. Some people just can't handle a little power, I guess. Nothing he said warranted your diatribe. So, he has a different opinion than you do. If we all thought the same, it would be a boring world.

While I strongly disagree with corn feeders due to new risk from chronic wasting along with the strong impact it has on turkeys, now is not the time for hunters to argue with each other over which tactics are right or wrong. We need to save those discussions for another time. Gentlemen, our love of hunting and shooting sports is under attack from a political perspective like never before. This is not said to spark another endless far left vs the right argument. We must unite like never before to protect our 2A rights. Encourage each other to support our 2A rights and make your feelings known to the correct political representatives in your area. The end game for these people to totally disarm all citizens and they are trying to do it one small step at a time. We can NOT let this happen. I dont know who is the actual Country or people behind this but be assured that they have evil intentions. Gun hunters, bow hunters, corn hunters, plot hunters, dog hunters, still hunters, unite together as never before!

I just watched three young bucks cutting flips trailing a doe. It was like watching my 16 year old self. They crazy right now!

Corn piles have made deer more nocturnal. Whereas dwindling food sources had deer up on their feet a lot more. Now they can just bed down most of the day and then go feed after dark.

Ok sorry. I’ll leave. See you later.
Zero offense taken DCD. People are passionate about their hunting. I started hunting at a time when just seeing a deer was a successful season, not day, a season. I’ve bought all the expensive high tech clothes and equipment, spent as much on guns as I did on automobiles but I eventually evolved into an exclusive bow hunter. When my shoulders gave out I went to pistols, of course that won’t work in your part of the state but for the hill country it’s pretty challenging.

My little brother has had a good 2 weeks. Both from the same stand, never had pics of either of them, both out strolling looking for love right before a front. Looking for love in all the wrong places...

My biggest was 13 years ago tomorrow but big brother still has him beat, pardon the blackface

I missed the part about hunting in the 2nd amendment. I agree about the corn feeders. Food plots are better.

True that the 2A does not mention hunting but it is going to be hard for me to hunt with no gun or ammo. Toooo old to bow hunt any more.
