He has 4 years left on his current contract. We would quite likely be a program he would love to build, maintain and stay at as long as we want him and keep his salary commensurate with his performance.

Born & raised less than 30 miles from MSU, he just might be willing to take an offer this year that guarantees a little more than he makes now, gives him much more for assistants, but is also full of very juicy incentives, both academic and athletic. Maybe he would agree to a contract that does not make it too painful if we need to buy him out in less than 4 years.

His current contract:

2019 – $265,000.

2020 – $265,000.

2021 – $270,000.

2022 – $280,000.

2023 – $280,000.

Buyout for us would be 25% of remaining contract. He's set to make $1,095,000 over the next 4 years with some relatively minor incentives. I'm thinking we ought to be talking to him to see if he would consider an initial 4-year contract doubling and guaranteeing his current base salary, and loading it up with enough performance incentives if he meets and/or exceeds established goals that his total compensation is in-line with other SEC coaches. And I would tell him if he meets or exceeds set goals 4 years in a row, we will renegotiate his contract to a more standard SEC HC deal if he so chooses.

If we could do this with a buyout that does not exceed his remaining salary, it would allow us to take a chance on Hud while paying off JoMo and not making it impossible to move on again if Hud does not work out.

Anybody think he might go for it, given his current situation and the fact he's a home-town boy? If it worked out, he could be our Frank Beamer, etc. If Hud built us up, he'd be less likely to treat us as a stepping-stone.

The good news is Joe as gone all Sherman's March on our program so whoever we could get will have to build up the program!

I think Hud would be great for us. I just doubt our folks have the stones to offer him.

I think part of the problem is Cohen is too stubborn to admit a mistake, he strikes me as someone who will go down with Joe before he admits he isn't the right guy. I could be wrong, but he is the IB.

It's just $5 folks.

There are approximately 3 million folks living in Mississippi, if we all just give $5 that will total $15 million dollars. So $9 million will be used to buy out Joe MoorBonehead, the remaining $6 million can be used to secure a quality PROVEN Head Coach.

You could not take Hud over Napier.
Why not? Especially if he would agree to something like the aforementioned. Hud is rehabbing his rep. Napier is rising. Hud is a local guy who likely views us as a destination job, Napier is not and likely does not. Napier would cost us way more than the above and if unsuccessful could put us in a financial bind where we are stuck with him regardless of results.

I would take Hud over JoMo, but I would definitely take Napier over Hud.

Would be quite nice of the Ole Miss and USM fans to help poor Mississippi State fix their program problems.

Is Hud your brother in law? There is no way we are hiring someone with ties to Ole Miss scandals or any ties to NCAA issues period. I don't care who's fault it was, who was in charge, who knew, who didn't know because all of that is ********.

You guys are crucifying Joe because of a tutor hired by Mullen's crew. The rest are trying to say Joe didn't know. He has been here for over two seasons... he knew.

If we did hire Hud we would need to fire Cohen right after we end up right back in the ******* in two or three years.

I don't intend to argue with your points here at all as they have merit, but I do think it's worth noting that our program is very much knee deep in the ******* right now.

Being in the ******* is no excuse to just hire another **** shoveler.

I don't have a candidate myself but the days of just grabbing coach so and so because he did this and backwater Louisiana college are over. The way the game is played now, you need a head man with good guys under him that take care of the offense, defense, etc, while he oversees the entire program. It's a 17ing hard *** job to do this in the SEC. I'm sure that Hud is a great guy but we need to hire the right mind rather than one of our good ol' boys.

Why are you so sure? He didn't exactly have great success as OC at Clemson. Good numbers the first of 2 years, bad numbers the next that got him fired. Then he went to Bama for one year as an offensive analyst under the OC Jim McElwain, and followed JM to Colorado State where he lasted one year as the OC for a HC that had also been the OC at Bama.

Yes, he was WR coach at Bama 4 years after that, but Saban and Bama have a way of making a lot of coaches look damn good, including Jeremy Pruitt. Then off to ASU as the OC, where he again lasts one year before his HC is fired because they sucked.

Now we have him as a HC at ULL, where he was 7-7 his first year, and 8-2 so far this year. Early this year he impressed by playing us tough in our first game. In retrospect that close loss no longer looks at all impressive. I see no impressive wins among the 8. Sure, he might be a really good HC, but I'd say that's still to be determined.

Now compare that to what Hud has done in his career.

In 15 years as a HC Hud has had just 4 losing seasons (3 after the NCAA trashed his program for what David Saunders did, and the 4th his first season as a HC, at UNA. The next year there he went 13-1). He took over a ULL program that had one winning season (6-5) in the previous 12 years, and more than 6 wins just 13 times in the previous 64 years. He took over that sad sack program and immediately won 9 games, and won 9 for 4 years straight before the David Saunders BS ripped apart his program.

How exactly does that make him a, "**** shoveler"?

Joe’s is $9,000,000
Yep. I know someone who is in the room that matters. Unless Joe leaves on his own, he will be back next year. It is what it is.

Also, unless there are major changes very high up at MSU, HUD will never be our head coach. I'm ok with that. Our history with the NCAA says that HUD is not a good idea.

Hudspeth is today's version of Bobby Wallace, a State alumnus who coached at UNA from 1988-1997, and again from 2012-2016. Every time things looked bad under Sherill, certain fans thought Wallace would be the ideal coach for us. Like Wallace, Hudspeth will never be hired as head coach at MSU.
