Or Mark Pope, both have WAYYYY more experience than Hubert Davis. Heck, Allen Edwards has more experience than Hubert Davis.A lot of people would be thrilled if UK hired Kenny Payne. Just saying.

I saw he was an option for AZ I think. Pope that is.Or Mark Pope, both have WAYYYY more experience than Hubert Davis. Heck, Allen Edwards has more experience than Hubert Davis.
I'd like to see someone within the UNCheat administration or Athletic Dept. give a truthful answer to why Davis was picked for the job. It certainly wasn't because of his resume. If it was because Davis is "family" for Carolina then, they need to explain why that adds weight to his credentials. If it was because they wanted to make a diversity hire then why not embrace it as such?
This whole notion that HD was the best candidate for the job begs for proof.
Wow! When Dean left he forced the school to hire Guthridge, who stayed 1 season and realized he was too old to handle the entirety of the job. They couldn't hire Ford because of personal issues, and they were forced into the Doherty hire which became a disaster. ALL because of the arrogance that no one outside of the Carolina Family is good enough to hold that job.
Roy finally came home. And now they let him pick Hubert as his successor? (remember Miller never played for Roy, so we don't know their relationship).
The UNC job, like ours, is way too big for someone without HC experience. Especially in today's world.
Hubert better catch lightning in a bottle or UNC will be in the same they were before Roy came.
What will be different is Davis is much less volatile, has more respect for the existing foundation (Doherty was trying to become the next Dean by putting his stamp on everything).
I was in Chapel Hill at the time, my business partner was well plugged into the Carolina Family. He even had some side business dealings with several of them, including Hubert. Who seemed like a pretty decent guy. Its just shocking they are so protective that they are willing to take this risk.

Guthridge was head coach for 3 seasons and went to the Final Four 2 times.Wow! When Dean left he forced the school to hire Guthridge, who stayed 1 season and realized he was too old to handle the entirety of the job.
In 2021 college basketball is a big time business. Especially at a Top 5 program like UNC. The head coach is as much a CEO as he is anything else. Scrutiny of a candidates' resume and ability is to be expected. Why should they explain anything? Richard Pitino is surviving as a failed head coach on his last name alone. Lots of people get their jobs when someone else more qualified was passed over cause they had 'connections', etc. Tom Izzo was selected head coach of MSU without being a head coach of a college program as well. I don't remember anyone calling for MSU to come out with an explanation.
I'm guessing you don't give big money to athletic programs. You can bet that UNC has big time boosters who have asked why HD was picked.Lol... no, it doesn't. They don't have to explain to anyone outside of the decision makers at the University why they hired Hubert.
Yup. Guth made the most of his short time there. He basically took Dean’s guys and let them play and it worked. He had some major talent there. I always had the feeling that he was just skating those three seasons and the players were just so good he didn’t have to do much. I envisioned him sitting on the sideline dreaming about what lures he would try out on the lake when he retired. I could be totally wrong, but that is how I felt about him. He really didn’t strike me as “driven.” More like collecting a paycheck, and not screwing things up for 3 years.Guthridge was head coach for 3 seasons and went to the Final Four 2 times.
"Caretaker" is the word that comes to mind.Yup. Guth made the most of his short time there. He basically took Dean’s guys and let them play and it worked. He had some major talent there. Yep, he was given the job to make some scratch for retirement and for being a loyal soldier."Caretaker" is the word that comes to mind.
