Context for Hubbard also matteres here as well. He wouldn’t get 20 shots every night here and most likely wouldn’t have to be the main creator here as well. So efficiency could go up while playing with better players.
Sure, context matters. He's their primary perimeter shooter/scorer mostly out of necessity. It is possible his numbers would improve if he was surrounded with better players. Antonio Reeves is a good example of that. Problem is, Reeves' efficiency actually got worse after he transferred to UK. Now, THIS season has been a different story. Look at Reeves' splits from IL State and UK

So, his percentages went down across the board, except for his 3pt shooting, when he came to UK. He was definitely a volume shooter/scorer at IL State and he was their main offensive threat on a team that wasn't very good. Now, compare to this season's numbers and you could definitely make that argument. Reeves was a better shooter as a volume guy on a bad team, though. I'm just not sure how Hubbard would do in a place where he was the 3rd or 4th option.

If he came to KY, he'd somehow lose all of that Steph Curry crazy shot ability and turn into a Wheeler...
I also think this year proves he promises playing time. It obvious now, I even saw how he coddles some and ignores most of the rest.

I want the next coach to care about UK and championships because for 15 years Cal has not.

Fair. Next years team needs scorers and that’s exactly what Hubbard is so in a different role maybe he can become more efficient

36% from three is not a bad three point shooter lol teams aren’t going under those screens and daring him to Shoot for a reason. He also takes a lot of shots on a team that needs it and he takes way more tough shots then he would on a better.

Peterson is option #1 and it isn't close.
If Cal somehow got Peterson and Johnson and Bradshaw returned, I could see him not going to the portal at all.
You just named the exception. The #1 stud, all world talent in Peterson. Of course you take him.

I'm referring to just about everyone else.

Haven't seen enough of Johnson, but I have to think a 22-year old, experienced college player from a good program (not Georgia or Rhode Island or Iowa), who can SCORE, is going to have a bigger impact than 99% of the freshmen options.

For those of us late to the party, who is Peterson?

@ralphdaltonfan would know more about if he is a reclsss candidate or not, I’m not sure
Thought Peterson was visiting for Senior Night against Vanderbilt?

He's not decided yet--but whenever he wants to decide what class, you take him.

I know he is very high on Kentucky and has never hid that in interviews. He's someone special and hope they blow him away on his OV. Thank god the Cookie Cakes can't be given in the Hotel "swag" room decorations anymore. LOL

Right. The way Monk, Quickley, Knox, Maxey, Herro, Lamb, Knight, Dillingham, Reeves and Sheppard all did.

Just whine on. No facts needed to whine!!

I'm all for Johnson staying in '25 because most of the covid players will be out of the game.
That and another year of maturity sets him up to have a bigger impact out of the gate.
I'm intrigued by Bruce Thornton of OSU, we had him here on a visit his JR year of HS.
Strong combo guard who could give us some physicality that we won't get with Fland or Perry.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing him in blue, though others always seem to have flashbacks of Wheeler. If he can shoot on fewer attempts the way he shot last night, I'll take him in a heartbeat. 😀

I knew he was visiting, I wasn’t sure if he wanted to reclass or stay in 2025

Now I see why folks think you're a Cal butt licker, and why your "types" are so annoying. Just as annoying as the Legion of Doom dead horse beaters...

If you're going to list a bunch of names, at least be more clear.

Nearly all of your names used as some example that they were awesome at UK and never had a "why on earth were they so highly rated?!?!" are really poor examples, except Monk, Dillingham and Sheppard. They have shown they are worth at least, or more, than they were rated coming in.

But the others...don't make me go research the multitudes of times when Herro, Knox (this one is funny), Maxey, Lamb and Knight disappeared and ultimately didn't live up to their hype (don't make the mistake of hindsight bias and their NBA draft positions and successes - this is about their time at UK).

Reeves was also MIA many times last year and never really got close to what he's become this year. I'm using first year examples of higher rated players coming in not really being our "go-to" guy, consistently.

I think you foul up 3 with maybe 6 or 7 seconds left. If you foul with 12 - 15 seconds left and they make both free throws then you put a lot of pressure on your own team to make free throws. If you miss one, they have the ball for the last shot with a chance to win, not just tie. I think Cal played it the correct way based on the amount of time left.
Makes sense except that Miss State 47% free throw center touched the ball and had just missed some not too long before.

I rewatched the highlights and man did he hit some insanely tough shots. He is just a bucket getter and a baller. He is gonna get paid this offseason by state or somebody is gonna poach him in the portal. If he were to enter I wouldn’t be mad at all if Kentucky tried to get him
He isn’t on any mock drafts? Dude is a shot maker.

to play devil's advocate, he has never shot like he did last night
Yep, I was playing devil's advocate against him earlier in this thread. He's a volume shooter and not very efficient from either 3pt range or 2pt range. That's why I said "if he can shoot the way he did last night, I would take him."
