Central MS at 3.50 PM. 35 degrees and rain no ice sleet or snow. May get through this without damage according to models. MS state athletics is 2 week old road kill right now. 17 Lebby, 17 Jans, 17 Selmon, and double 17 Keenum. Rum and coke is the only way I am getting through this.
roads are clear and wet in Starkville. Unfortunately, the trees and powerlines are starting to freeze up with more heavy precip on the way.
I can't see any power lines from my house, but I have acres of hardwoods behind me and mature pines within view. The pines are really showing their ice. I'd guess we have 1/4 inch of ice so far. Electricity still holding on! I have 2 gallons of chili I made ready to go for later. 4:04 Lee county.
The trees and shrubs in my Starkville yard starting to droop from the weight of the forming ice, BUT, forecast shows the temp rising above freezing starting at 6:00 tonight and up as high as 39' by 5:00 a.m. with continued rain through the night and until noon tomorrow. The temp drops then at noon really cold but the rain should be over so looks like we may dodge the bullet. If it continues to rain like it's supposed to and the temp were to drop like any other night we'd be 17d by that much rain freezing but as if stands we good here
They are what keep me from ever getting any of that great dessert!
HSV is the farthest north I’ve ever lived and most winter impacted. Usually had 5-6 slow commutes home per year in snow/iced over roads. Was never a big deal.
I think the weather boys needed something to spazz about since it’s been pretty quiet.
N. Central MS... sleeted all morning.. a mix in the afternoon that has ice on the trees and lines. If it wouldn't start back again tonight we'd be in the clear but a few more hours of freezing rain and we'll have problems.

I'm getting regular rain at my house at the moment. The temperature on my weather station is 32.1.
A mile away it could well be freezing.
They had a reporter on Fox Weather an hour or so ago who was in Oxford. Honestly, it didn't look all that bad there - maybe a half inch of slush on the road. Couldn't tell how the trees looked.

Just icy in the Marshall, Tex/shreveport area. Been sleeting since 3am off and on. Will be messy as 17 tomorrow
it could warm a degree or drop 5 in starkville right now which would be real bad. at least the wind isn't blowing.
While we didn't panic purchase, my wife had me prepping even after the forecast looked more favorable.
Her Helene PTSD is stronger than mine. I get it. I went to work or drove to Columbia, SC for supplies. She was home with a toddler & no power for about 10 days & no cell service. A generator can only do so much.

I think the worst for us is tonight or tomorrow night. Schools are already closed Monday & my folks' church won't hold services in the morning.

The last heavy rain deposited a lot more ice on the trees. Tomorrow morning there's a heavy dose early. One of the hardwoods in the woods behind the house fell. Streets are soaking wet. Sunrise will be interesting. Lee county
Sounds like the ice storm chances for our area(Desoto) are trending down from a report an hour ago but doesn't sound like we can feel too safe till we get into tomorrow afternoon.
It really is a function of exactly where you are unless you're just in the middle of the freezing precipitation zone.
It has rained a lot since 12:00 PM here north of Madison, but the temperature hasn't dipped below 35 so it's nothing but wet at this point. 3 or 4 degrees lower would likely have made a huge difference and may still do so in the hours before noon tomorrow. Fingers crossed and all the best to those dealing with likely long power outages and soon to be frigid temps.

Just a few minutes of sleet in the Charlotte area so far. But the freezing rain forecast for Sunday sounds quite serious. Hopefully it’s based on a worst case.
We’ve had a good bit of rain in Tupelo since ~6pm. It’s melted off ground / roads but built up a lot on trees. Few limbs down in my yard. My lights have been flickering a lot last hour or so and we never lose power at my house. I think ***** about to get bad overnight.
