Why do college coaches get off topic?

They get paid millions and coach a team of 100 players who come from very diverse backgrounds. Why the need to ever get off topic?

It's not very difficult to say, if you have questions about our team, the game, the practice, I'll answer those questions.

Maybe it's me. I saw an apolitical thread, enjoying the read, then I hit politics. Sometimes off topic can just be about things other than politics ... or religion. How did we get here where that's not possible?
