Those playing contrarian of the day have overlooked a pretty huge aspect: Duke beat UK on a number of recruits in the Cal Kentucky years, guys who would have been UK-bound if not for trying the Duke sauce:

Tatum
Irving
Ingram
Barrett
Zion
Bolden
Kennard
Reddish
maybe Bagley

That is to say: no K = monopoly for Calipari. I mean, we used to think Cal's recruiting couldn't get any better, but with the K/Team USA done, Calipari monopolizes the recruiting field.

Those downplaying this reality are not being reasonable.

You must’ve seen Fact-checker
I did indeed. I thought he had just fallen off the internet after his meltdown on Rafters, but alas... he/she is still around. As are a few other UK fans that have been outted as UNC fans on here. Posting on a Duke message board while posing as a UK fan is weird af, imo.

I guess I just do not understand the reason for multiple accounts or "faking" your fandom on a message board.

I am actually ambivalent. I do not really care one way or the other, however, I am tired of seeing his rat face.

I think they've been doing that for years. The special radio controlled harness shutoff back in 05 when this happened.

Luckily for them it was just a battery issue and you can see an assistant walking over to change the batteries.

Duke invested 100million in LiPo betteries after this incident. They needed a more powerful and efficient way to power him for the future.

I’ll be thrilled That i don’t have to look at that rat face POS. He can coach, but he’s an arrogant *******.

Pretty much the way I feel as well.

The media myth that has been created for Duke and UNC is the pinnacle of hypocrisy in the college athletics world. Let's see, two bastions of integrity who happen to routinely collect groups of all American clean cut Dudley Do-rights, who are prelaw or premed students, and just also happen to be championship caliber basketball players. Golly gee whiz.

UNC's soul has been laid bare for all (who choose to anyways) to see, and the Duke curtain has been largely pulled aside the past several years as well.

I didn't really begin to loathe Duke until 2002 or so. The 92 game hurt, but for our players and how they had almost reached their goals. I didn't "hate" Duke for making a great last second shot. No, it was the title given to them in 02, or maybe 03. That's when it became obvious to me they fell under different rules and given the advantages of incessant media slobbering, favorable tourney draws, ridiculously biased officiating, etc., etc. that no other program could even remotely dream of. Not even the even the fake *** facade of UNC. That title was stolen from Maryland and just like all the other ones ever since has about a 3 foot thick coating of taint all over it.

OTOH, I still LMAO when I think of how poor Coach K got caught up in that "regrettable incident" a few years back. The one where he f'ing LIED to the whole college basketball world when he post game chastised a player from the other team for the kid's excessive celebration after having knocked out/upset the beloved Dukies in the tourney. The same "excessive" type of celebration that Duke players had been shown to have engaged in numerous times in the past when they had won "big" games. Only after having to face irrefutable evidence that he indeed chastised the player, and implied that the player had lied about their exchange, and then lied to the media about it did K manage to cough up some statement about the "regrettable incident" without ever once using the word sorry or the phrase "I was wrong". The man has been a very good coach, but he's been an even greater hypocritical POS. Good riddance.

And that's all I have to say about that.

"But wait, there's more. If you order before midnight tonight you get a second dose of rambling, grammatically deficient, run on sentences"

K isn't evil incarnate, I'm sure he has done a lot of good things with his fame, helped people, charitable contributions, etc. He has ridden the wave of media adulation, and profited from it like any other person/coach would. In other words he's win at just about any cost like everybody else. The media is to blame for the annointed saint hood. He hasn't shied away from it and certainly used it to his advantage. Would be reasonable to think he has also manipulated the process some. Winning at college basketball is a cut throat venture.

Obviously K's legend will be the GOAT. Sorry John and Dean, but you all are going to have to.scoot over a little. We have years and years and years, and years, of continuing media overhype of his unmatched greatness. But where should he really rank?

I say he's a really, really good coach. Won a lot of games, his team's pretty much always play hard and are generally well organized and prepared. But he's accomplished this with every advantage a coach could ever ask for. 90% of his recruiting pitch has been done for him by the media. I don't wear a tin foil hat, but anybody who can't see, or hasn't seen, the officiating bias in Duke's favor does. A very prestigious university has sold out it's academics (like many others also have) to let him bring in academically challenged kids who then fall under the umbrella of a high performing "typical" Duke student as they pursue that 3 year sociology degree (a program only available to athletes IIRC). Does anybody not think that plays well with patents? How many other really, really good coaches could achieve supreme greatness with those advantages? Compare that with what Cal did at UMass or what Rick did at Providence. Could K go to the FF starting from scratch at programs like that? Maybe, but we don't really know because he's only had success at ONE place, and with every aforementioned advantage.

Other threads talk about Duke's demise when K retires. I'm not so sure. You can be a decent coach and still achieve greatness at Duke. ESPN and the NCAA will have no reason to not continue hyping the Duke program as the greatest thing ever. Too much money at stake. So the 95% of their recruiting pitch will still be done for them, and is there any reason to think all the other favorable treatment will subside. My guess is that the next Duke coach will be Hurley or Wojo. An ex cutie pie Dukie that can be over hyped to no end and the train of BS will likely continue to keep rolling. (sigh)

I’ll be waiting for the Decon press conference, where the CEO comes out like Obama when they killed Osama and tell everyone they finally got their man. Worlds most wanted rodent.

We should be careful what we wish for. The slobbering over him could only get worse over time. Watching him struggle at the end of his career might be the only thing to look forward to. That would be most enjoyable.

Coach Rupp won 876 games playing less than 30 games per year. He was the only coach to win that many with less than 200 losses (190). Coach K doesn’t compare

I will drink 6 beers.

Disclaimer: If he decides to coach another 10 years, I will still drink 6 beers.

Coach K has peaked. He can stick around but he will only see Puke start to sink in recruiting. The same as I fear when Coach Cal leaves. When that day comes and the one and done bypass us because he is leaving there will be a few ****** years reguardless of who UK hires. We are living in the "good old days" right now of our generation.

I won't react. Coaches retire all the time.

Oh yes, and all of those coaches have an equal impact on what UK does or doesn't do on the court?

Add Tatum to the '17 team and it's #9. Add Winslow to the '15 team and it's #9. Put Bagley with last year's group and...you get the point.

K leaving Duke monopolizes recruiting (non-west coast) for UK. That's kind of a big deal.
