that the referees and coaches have to wear masks, but close to 200 players don't. If I'm a referee and they tell me I've got to run up and down the field for close to 4 hours with a mask on, I'm telling them I'm out.

Less stupid than two Power 5 conferences cancelling their seasons in early August.

Didn't they say at the beginning that players had to wear masks or gaiters unless they were in the game? Are gaiters still considered to be possilbly worse than nothing because they atomize the droplets?

Yeah it seems a lot of these things are just symbolic of look at us we are trying.

Masks for refs is brutal. Thats tough to justify, given they run/jog thru the game.

Coaches with masks seems fine. Why not?
Masks don't stop everything, but they cut down on transmission compared to nothing. Similarly, while the ideal is for everyone to wear one, every bit helps so if only the coaches wear masks then its better than nothing.
That seems tough to argue against.

I do think players on the sideline should wear masks. Like the NBA- when on the bench wear a mask and distance.
Wonder where all the masks would be kept when players are on the field though. Hmm.

That story just didn't pass the common sense test. Which doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence in the so-called "experts." Someone should have said, wait a minute, how can wearing something to cover your mouth and nose make the virus spread more. Maybe we should recheck our data.

This is it in the entirety. The golf bubble is at best a wiffle ball. There are a million holes in the plan, but it’s all about trying.

Any more news on the 2 hr test?

If everyone tests at 7a and they are app quarantined together and all tests are negative, why would anyone have to wear a mask?

Of course that depends on if the 2 hr tests are ready and legit accurate.

The “gaiters are bad” was evidently a faulty study that has had some pushback

https://www.livescience.com/coronavirus-neck-gaiters.html

Thanks. That's an interesting article. Seems like there's no definitive consensus one way or the other. You'd think, since masking seems to be so highly recommended and appears by real data to be effective, that there would be truly scientific studies conducted to determine the usefullness of gaiters and other single-ply masks. Why not just make double or triple layer gaiters? Seems simple enough to do.

Refs generally aren't nearly as close to the players as players in the game are. There's really no need for them to wear a mask, especially when playing in Montgomery in late August. Might be more tolerable later in the year.

We ordered a couple of masks from the Broadway Theater League for when plays are able to start back. They are gaiters with some sort of BTL design on them, but are single layer polyester. Mostly did it to support the activity since they, along with just about every other activity that requires an audience, are hurting financially. Figured we'd just wear a standard non-medical unwoven mask underneath it, if the need is still there this time next year when plays resume.

We've been hearing about the "fast test" for what seems like months. That's what Trump and others at the White House do daily, and isn't intrusive like the swab to the eyeballs. Problem is, it doesn't ever seem to be available for the average Joe. Hopefully the test will be widely available soon.
