First off, let me say that I feel really confident about the game Saturday against UNC. Idk why, but for some reason I feel as if this team is about to come together and this will be the coming out party so to speak. However, there is only 1 pro on this team that will stick in the NBA and that’s KJ. Now I know that we will have more declare and we will have more than just KJ leave *cough PJ cough*, but to the people thinking the sky is falling because of our recruiting misses, our biggest recruiting targets are on this current team!!! If things will go to this plan, next year has the chance to be significantly better than this year. To all the people more in the know than me, how would you you guys feel if this scenario happened AND what are the chances that it could happen?

1. Cal land Hurt and McDaniels to go with our current class and N’Faly reclassifies.
2. UK loses PJ, KJ, Travis, and Hagans to draft
3. UK returns Quickley, Herro, Baker, Richards, and Montgomery to go along with incoming recruits.

Rotation:
PG: Maxey/Quickley
SG: Herro/ Whitney/Baker
SF: McDaniels/ Whitney/ Allen
PF: Montgomery/ Hurt
C: Richards/ Montgomery/ N’Faly

That is a team that consists of 4 of the top 10 for next years recruiting class and a rotation of 10 McDAA. That would be one of the deepest teams we’ve had 1-10!! Put that product on the court and get out of the way.

Now, our biggest recruiting battles will be getting Montgomery and Richards return to go along with Hurt and McDaniels. We can afford to lose one of Herro/Quickley and still be fine. What is the probability that we will land Hurt and McDaniels and can we convince Montgomery and Richards to return?

LOL No way Whitney is coming to sit behind Hero. Whitney is a beast and will be a starter. IF Hero is back next year and Whitney is here, he will sit behind him unless he plays the 2g and Whitney plays the 3.

Kinda what I'm hoping for too but a little different. Hopefully add another top guard.

Quickly/Maxey/ Hampton or Green reclass.
Herro/Maxey/Baker
Whitney/McDaniel
McDaniel/Whitney/EJ
EJ/ Dante

It's all guessing at this point. May get Hurt possibly too.
I want NO part of another year of Richards.

No not at all. I think we have a very good chance to make a run. I like this team. I’m always projecting what’s ahead though. And with all the negative nancies thinking that that the sky is falling around here, my point was that we need to add Hurt and McDaniels and also retain Montgomery and Richards to have a fantastic squad lined up for next year as well.

All i will say is this. We can NOT continue to lose guys who wouldn’t be bolting had they played for any other team.

Cal isn’t getting the top 1-3/5 guys now. That’s fine. He’s still an ace recruiter and we get studs... but we can’t lose Herro, Hagans, IQ, PJ and EJ etc and expect to field even a remote contender next year.

I believe Cal knows this though. He is The Godfather of this entire movement. He will adapt and he will succeed

We are set at the guard positions. McDaniels would be a luxury to have. Hurt is a MUST GET if we lose Richards. If we lose Richards and Montgomery and add only NFaly, we’re going to be playing 5 guards a majority of the time.

Let me ask you this... if we retain all of our guards and McDaniels commits, are you willing to lose Whitney? I’d rather have Whitney than McDaniels

Are you under the impression he isn’t 100% on board and is waiting until the Spring to see who we return and possibly reevaluate? Just curious what your view is since basketball doesn’t typically work that way compared to decommits in Football.

Because Whitney is committed as of now and adamantly claims that he’s all in on KY and the timing just didn’t work for the fall signing bc he wants to do it back home.

I personally think there is plenty of time at the 3-4 spot even if we add McDaniels. Herro is the only returning guard that will take minutes at the 3 if we don’t add Edwards, Green or Hampton.

That is ludicrous. How soon many forget. John Wall and Eric Bledsoe.... Cal allows all to feed and he still has his skills (I am talking about Cal's skills.) What has deteriorated is the landscape and yes, Cal has to compensate for that but I am betting he will. He is too good not to up his game or at least modify his game.

Cal likes long teams. Your always gonna see 2-3 bigs on the court and if Hampton says he wants to come and play with Maxey at UK everybody else is a backup guard.

I generally agree, but you never know. We're doing what we do every year: we blast the current freshman and think the incoming recruits are just going to be so much better. No idea how Whitney is going to adjust.

And while I do think he will be better than Herro (as a true scoring forward he'll put up numbers).. I would NOT count out sophomore Herro. That kid is a competitor, he's coachable, and he's smart.. on top of it, he's proved he can play this level. Watch out for that guy when he gets going.

Idk but Hurt feels like a Cal pull to me. Everybody wants him and he’s always been highly regarded. Relatively quiet recruitment but Cal has been to see him a ton. Feels Knox’s like to me.

Good point. As to your question about Whitney, yes I am under the impression that he is waiting til the spring because he wants to reevaluate and see who’s likely to stay. If we retain all our guards and add Maxey and Whitney, that’s quite the log jam at the guard position. I think what he and the family say is just fluff until they know for sure.

You’re right. He’s been to Minneapolis like 10 times, or something like that. He’s shown that he is top priority. This is the type of guy that would go to Kansas and burn us. I want him on our team.

I don’t want to add any of Edwards Green or Hampton. If it came down to it, I wouldn’t be too upset with replacing Quickley with Hampton, but I want to retain AT LEAST 3 of our guards. Preferably, I’d like it to be Quickley, Herro, and Baker to go with Whitney and and Maxey. That gives you 5 really good players with Dontei Allen getting spot minutes at guard as well. I feel that anything more than that starts to cause rotation issues. Gotta let players get in their groove (especially shooter).

EJ on next year’s team would make up for Wiseman and Carey. It would be great to see him blow up at UK next season instead of an NBA roster. I bet he gets noticed in a big way at the combine.

He wouldn’t have to in the original scenario. Projecting a starting five on that crew would be very difficult and would change many times through the season, but I would start the season like this:

PG: Quickley
SG: Herro
SF: McDaniels or Whitney
PF: Montgomery
C: N’Faly

Bench:
G: Maxey
G: Whitney or McDaniels
F : Allen
F: Hurt
C: Richards

Make the freshman earn their time on the court. That blend of experience and talent excites me almost as much as 2015!! I could see the end of the year starting lineup being:

PG: Maxey
SG: Whitney
SF: McDaniels
PF: Montgomery
C: N’Faly

The last intel I heard was that Hurt had Kansas, Carolina, and Memphis ahead of the pack. But that intel was before he started his official visits. It will be interesting to see how much, if any, the visits impact this recruitment.

Look for him to commit in April around his birthday.

I would hate to see any of the other blue bloods get this kid. He’ll burn us every time we play if he goes to Kansas or Carolina. Gotta think UK has to be moving up a little bit with all the love that Cal is showing...

He's apparently started telling coaches he wants to play exclusively on the wing. So he no longer views himself as a stretch 4 (which is what he ought to play in college IMO.) He wants to play the 3 spot (a position I don't think he can defend.)

So I'm no longer that invested in where he ends up. If a coach promises him the SF spot to land him, that Coach will have some major defensive headaches to deal with next year. I think you almost have to play zone defense to get by with Matt Hurt as your SF.
