How many Iowa fans?

We had at least 5k at Maryland in '14, and I think this will top that. Last season gave lots of fans the incentive to book this trip.

Do you honestly think 8,000 Cornhusker fans traveled from Nebraska to HPSS last year? Nope. Maybe - MAYBE - half. Same with all the rest of the B1G schools they have large alumni bases in the region.

You might be right, but the fan estimates for almost all the Big 10 visitors have been overstated to date. Stub hub prices are way way down compared to previous big 10 games.

Other than Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State, the Big Ten schools have minimal visiting fans, under 5K. The "NYC Metro Area" fan bases of these schools is overrated as is their willingness to attend a game.

People from Iowa love their team and their state.
Iowa students and alums love their school.
They will represent loudly on Saturday.

At least there is no longer yellow coated ushers in the stadium.

Wouldn't be shocked by 2,500. Would be by 5,000. That's a lot of people to expect unless you're talking a big rival or two top teams.

This is a tough one. Normally demand from Rutgers fans is strong for these games. For instance PSU had a hard time getting tickets because Rutgers fans bought them up. There are plenty of extras for this game so if Iowa travels well, I could see 5k-10k based on how many tickets are available.

Disagree wholeheartedly. OSU and Nebraska brought as many if not more than "estimated. Michigan was a tad lower as the fan base was seriously souring on Brady Hoke at the time, but I expect a huge showing this year, and PSU was about spot-on as was MSU. Wisconsin was hard to judge but still had 5k'ish dealing with torrential downpours.

You obviously missed when Nebraska fans completely took over the south end zone last year.

That's what college athletics is all about-especially a big time conference like the B1G.

It's important that our fans treat visiting fans (who act respectfully) well.
Offer the Iowa fans a beer, some food.

Obviously if opposing fans are obnoxious (a lot of Pen St fans, I heard Wisconsin fans too) they should be heckled or ignored.

Yes, we hosted tons of Iowa fans at Maryland. It seemed like more than 5K. Not sure how many were local and how many traveled, but they were loud and fun.

That seems to be a huge difference from the ACC -- the number of fans that follow their team on the road.

Rutgers hasn't had a big casual fan base that buys in the secondary market. Actual attendance (not reported) had been mainly down due to season ticket holders not showing up. Again, I would think stub hub prices would be higher if 2-3,000 Iowa fans were showing up in addition to the 3,000 sold through their allotment. In the end, I may be wrong. We will find out Saturday.

Another poster said our season ticket base is 30,000. Is that accurate, and if so, what is the source? The number seems incredibly high to me.

Before last weekend, I would have said 5k easily. But then last weekend happened and it sucked a lot of wind out of sails. The casual east coast Iowa fan may be persuaded to stay home now, but I still think they'll be solid numbers. I'll have a pretty good idea tomorrow when I'm at O'Hare.

You don't need to see a rival or a top team if your school only comes around every once in a while.

Isn't it like harvesting season or something? Don't they all have to worry about their crops and baseball fields in the corn?
