How important is the Kansas game?

Just saw this staggering stat. Kansas has lost 65% of its football season ticket holders since 2009: https://collegefootballtalk.nbcspor...ew-low-in-2017-down-over-6-million-from-2009/

By comparison, Rutgers lost around 20% between 2009 and 2017 (I don't believe the 2018 numbers have been published yet). That's bad, but not even in the same universe as the Kansas collapse.

People like to pretend that Rutgers is the only team who was in a bad situation when the new coach took over. But there were several other P5 teams in the same situation. I understand 2016 we were bad but at some point, we have to stop blaming Flood for getting blown out all the time.

What game were you watching? We didn't blow out Illinois. We won by 11. We were in control the entire game but they started to come back at the end. What Indiana did to us was a blowout. The Illinois game wasn't a blowout.

I was at that Game and it wasn’t even close. RU dominated the entire game and the Illini got a cheap TD in the closing minutes. We pushed them around all game. Illini is better than Kansas. Our game in September won’t even be close.

We did physically dominate them but it wasn't a blowout. We never put in our backups and they only lost by 11. I don't consider an 11 point win a blowout. When Ohio State beats us by 50, that's a blowout. The Illinois game was just a win.

The over/under on season wins for Rutgers is 4. So the experts are predicting that Rutgers stays static. If you think that's "just silly," I will assume you're on the next flight to Vegas? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The Las Vegas line is "the experts"? Vegas lines are not projections, but an attempt at a middle ground to split bets evenly on both sides. RU's conference schedule is more difficult this year replacing Nebraska and Purdue with last season's top two finishers in the West (Wisconsin and Northwestern) and the only significant difference in OOC is replacing Washington with Kansas. Most people probably believe RU's schedule is more difficult this year than last year.

Illinois had only 135 yards of total offense in the first half. RU led 21-10. In the 3rd quarter, RU went up by 18 for a 28-10 lead. By this point in time Illinois abandon a balanced offense and started throwing almost every play. They were able to cut the lead to 11 (28-17) midway through the 4th quarter, but RU answered back with a score of their own. RU pushed the lead back to 18 (35-17), Illinois went chuck and duck to score late in the 4th (35-24). It turned out to be the final score. A more in-depth look at the game showed RU control the game. Illinois finished the game with 394, but 2/3 of their yards came in the second when they went exclusively with the pass. Illinois had a total of 269 yards in the second half. In fact, 160 of those yards came on the last two drives (resulting in scores). The score of the game doesn't tell the entire truth of the game. RU controlled the game after the mishaps early in the first quarter. If RU has a passing game, they could have blown this game wide open. They did damage strictly with the run to the tune of almost 300 yards.

Not disagreeing with a your point, I think we're disagreeing with the definition of a blowout. I consider a blowout what we did to Morgan State.

Controlling the game is not a "blow out"...otherwise we've been blown out many more times than the score indicates...

Where did I say blowout? I said RU controlled the game. Illinois was never in a position to threaten RU by stealing a win.

Cannot disagree with your post. It may not have been you, but ‘blowout’ was thrown around earlier in the thread, referencing the Illinois game. I’m too lazy to go back to find it.

Last year or so I polled the forum to see what we consider a blowout. I consider tth threshold to be a 21 point differential, but most posters thought it should be 28 given the high scoring nature of today’s game. By that definition, the Illinois game was no blowout.

We're agreeing then. The person I was replying to said we blew them out. It wasn't a close game but it wasn't like we beat them by 40 either.

Have you seen the crowds Kansas gets for their home games? If we send a decent size contingent out there, we just might take over the stadium.

Exactly experts at what? They set lines to generate the proper balance in the betting between the two teams to avoid getting hammered if it turns out bad. They are expert gamblers. Also, how can you say what the betting line will be in the third games of the year without knowing the results of the first two games for both teams? To use an unknowable betting line made by the casino experts in vegas as "the facts" to support your case that we suck and you want Ash fired is absurd.

As a previous poster noted, we don't have a QB, this is not going to be an easy year. Overall talent on the field gives us the edge, but not enough to overcome a few stupid penalties, dropped passes, and maybe a pick or two. Should we win, yes, will we win, anybody's guess.

True Freshmen QB who has never taken a snap. An O line that’s been mediocore at best in recent years and we are gonna have 2 new starters. Please temper those expectations. Have hope but many of you are basing Your feelings on spring practice. We sucked last year lost to a MAC school at home. Our best RB is gone and there is so much uncertainty at many positions.

And when we still had a bunch of good RBs, Ash refused to use them and tried to install a ridiculous offense that our personnel couldn't run. As bad as the 2016 team was, if we had been a pro style, run first team I still think we could have won 1 or even 2 more games that year behind Goodwin, RMIII and Hicks. A real world example of poor coaching by Ash, even though that team was going nowhere ultimately. But Ash did make that team worse than it should have been.

Plus an undersized and slow DL without depth.

Undersized and slow, NO! What you can question is the lack of quality depth. Perhaps, Turner is not the ideal NT (6'0, 282), but Wilkins (6'2, 310) is excellent at DE. Bateky (6'3, 300) is a typical DT in every way. Lumor (6'3, 245) is really an LB in the way Rutgers runs its scheme. The backups have size too. Previlon is 6'5, 290 DT, Duggan is 6'1, 292, Bordner 6'4, 280, Rutgers has one of the bigger DL in the B1G, and they are not slow in any sense. I seriously doubt anything I said will change your mind.
