How do “they” miss 3, maybe 4 fouls during UK’s last possession in the E8? Yeah...by Ty Jerome with 5 second left in backcourt
I think they just didn’t realize it. Such a frantic situation. You’re anticipating Auburn fouling, time is winding down, Virginia is possibly going to try and shoot while being fouled, etc, so they flat out missed in imo.The foul on the shot was legitimate but the low severity of the foul paired with the moment makes it a usual no call. I just wonder if they didn’t even realize at all they missed the double dribble because if they did you absolutely swallow the whistle at the end.
Good question, they miss that but give UVA 3 ft to win it allby Ty Jerome with 5 second left in backcourt
Who was the official? One Official missed the DD call. And he knows it now.

That’s not what was going on at Auburn at all. Keep the facts the facts. The assistant coach was indicted for steering recruits to a certain agent once they left college. If anything, he was wanting players to LEAVE Auburn so he could get paid.NO ONE saw the double dribble...did you? It even looked like the Auburn player took a stab at the ball, now he never touched it, but that also complicated the call.
Plus, Karma sucks for a team with players that were illegally recruited by a coach who pleaded GUILTY and going to Federal Prison. The NCAA really missed that call!!

Have you ever officiated? Because this is a fantastic post. I worked CBB for some time. And this is just an absolute great post. What people don't understand is the intensity of these games. As an official, you know Auburn is going to foul. You are anticipating this. You become so focused on not missing the foul, that you miss the DD. You are telling yourself---"don't miss the foul....don't miss the foul". Becasue last thing you want, is to miss an obvious foul, only to have UVA drop one in at the buzzer.I think they just didn’t realize it. Such a frantic situation. Auburn grabbing his jersey before the double dribble. That’s a foul.

Yes, to answer your first question. However I can't give the officials a pass in this situation. Staring down the dribbler is never a good idea so they properly focused on the defense given it's a take-foul situation...but if you're doing that, you clearly know the defender wasn't involved in the deflection/interrupted dribble, so it shouldn't be that tough to get the illegal dribble after he picks it up and starts another. Secondly, they also missed the defender grabbing the UVA jersey before the player committed the illegal dribble....so being focused on refereeing the defense didn't help them there.Have you ever officiated? Sure it was an easy call.via rule----So to speak. But not an easy call given the situation. Hell I bet 99% of those watching at home, and in the arena, had no idea it happened, until it was brought up some minutes after the fact. ****, Pearl didn't even realize it.
Great post.
Never officiated at a high level, but ran a college basketball arena and worked in college athletics, so been around a lot of college basketball.Have you ever officiated? Definitely missed the first grab by the AU defender...which perversely, would have probably helped Auburn if they had called it. The throw in would have been well in the backcourt which would have made it potentially harder to get a quick pass to a shooter...although granted would have had a couple more seconds to execute the play.No doubt they missed a DD by Jerome in backcourt, but they also missed the AU player practically pulling his jersey off when he was trying to get to the ball after dribbling it off his calf. Poetic justice imo, a proven cheater's team with players recruited by an assistant coach heading to prison for handing out shoe company money. Only way AU's loss would have been more enjoyable would have been in the finals. They cheated their way to a NC in football with Scam, and came very close to cheating their way to one in basketball.
