Football How deep is D2?

Currently going into week 6. There are still 10 undefeated teams in Class D2...

-Wauneta-Palisade, Randolph, Mullen, Kenesaw, Bloomfield, Johnson-Brock, FCSH, HSF, Sandhills/Thedford and Riverside.

Also some good 4-1 teams in Allen, Overton, Clearwater-Orchard and Garden County.

This is the first time I remember where there are multiple teams from nearly every corner of the state that could go deep in the playoffs.

There are some great games the last three weeks of the season to shake it out.

This week:

Bloomfield at Randolph
Garden County at Wauneta-Palisade
Sandhills/Thedford at Mullen

Next a week:

Allen at Randolph
Riverside at HSF

Final week:
Johnson-Brock vs Falls City Sacred Heart

Who are some of your favorites as of now? Is J-B for real? Who comes out of the west between Mullen/Garden County/Wa-Pa/Sandhills/Kenesaw? Does Riverside go west?

A lot of balance in D2 this year. It should make for some great regular season games that really have meaning. I like it when undefeated and 1 loss teams meet and actually sort some things out on the field before playoffs start. And since you asked the question, yes I think J-B is for real. And I give Bloomfield a slight edge among the northeast Nebraska teams.

Bloomfield has what a lot of D2 teams in northeast Nebraska don't have. That is linemen. If Hartington-Newcastle had some linemen they'd be really good. Hartington-Newcastle has some really good skill players but no linemen.

I saw J-B play Lawrence-Nelson and man did the Eagles look good. It'll be interesting to see how Sacred Heart matches up with their offense. Right now that looks like as good a team as any in D2, but (like always) you can't discount the teams that come out of northeast Nebraska.

Food for thought. Winside, who is 0-5, including a forfeit and have not finished multiple games, is only six spots away from the last wildcard playoff spot. If the remaining teams on their schedule and the teams they have already played win out, and they somehow manage to upset a current 1-4 Elgin/Pope John, could they somehow manage to get in at 1-7? How crazy, and at the same time sad, would that be?

Not that it is much better but at least Boyd County qualified when D1 was screwy with about 10 teams being ineligible. This would be crazy since Winside has struggled to field a team each week. Maybe a sign that 32 team playoff is 16 too many?
