... and not beat Wisconsin? Same deal with the John Wall class and losing to West Virginia. I like 99% of everything about Cal and this great run we're on but Cal needs a "tweak" to his coaching in terms of X's and O's. Just needs to work with his staff and figure it out. Nothing big... just small adjustments that help us to reach our full potential in the tourney. Cal seriously could have had 3 or 4 titles already, which is just crazy. He got so close each time. Love them Cats... Want to see our boys smiling in that confetti on Monday night a few more times!

A. The pressure of being 38-0 final caught up to us.

I already voiced my frustrations over this.
One last thing : Saturday should go down as Cal's biggest failure. ( speaking in terms of his performance in the game)

Never said is was easy. Cal is a deserving HoF coach. But it's a fair question. I'm really not criticizing. I'm sure Cal's thinking about the same thing. Sometimes coaches can be pretty stubborn, like Cal not trying a zone or continuing to switch on ball screens when Wisky was killing us. It's really small stuff but if he can adapt his coaching just a tiny bit in the right direction this crazy good run will get UCLA Wooden-esque.
1. Johnson, WCS, the twins were not that good offensively, while Lyles, Ulis, and Booker were inconsistent all season; and it caught up to us.
2. Trey Lyles playing out of position all season didn't help in terms of offensive flow.
3. Our guards never learned how to defensive rebound this year.
4. The twins were not good enough to exploit Koenig and Gasser, which is absurd.
5. The three straight possessions of failure - partly on Cal, partly on Andrew.
6. Our only consistent threat was Karl Towns. The rest of the roster was very good, but not a one of them was much better in terms of real game impact than guys like Quinn Cook or Nigel Hayes.

We can point out stats that say why we should have won, we can point out stats that say why the badgers won, but it all comes down to one stat...rebounding. I don't want to relive that game, but there is no way in hell our NBA frontcourt and NBA size guards should have lost a rebounding war all year. And we not only lost but were out rebounded by 12. So you can ask how we didn't beat wisky...and I say how the hell do they out rebound us at all let alone that bad. That was the game period.
That's why is doesn't really matter who comes back if Cal doesn't change a few things in the way he coaches.
He can get away with it most of the time, but when you play teams in the final four, they are good too.

Harrison, Harrison and Booker were terrible defensive rebounders all season. It was inexplicable given their size. I said back in December that their ability to rebound defensively would be the difference in Kentucky being a great team or Kentucky being a historical juggernaut.

Great collection of talent, but when they came up against a team that had circled this game on their calendar since last year's meeting in the FF, they got outplayed and looked out of sync as a TEAM. Calipari could have made some adjustments to give the Cats an advantage, but it did not happen until it was too late. Pressure and going up against a polished, driven team was a bad combination for this group....
Dude is one of the top three coaches in the game today, got voted into the HOF. Do I think he had a bad plan for Saturday? Probably so, but who do you want as coach?! Lol.
Cal is not a strong X and 0 guys urging in game and having to make adjustments. I never looked at 2010 as a failure. Yes, we had 3 front line NBA talented guys but UK was so young and never had been through it as far as tourney success or pressure. This year was the first year I look at it and just say Cal and the Cats blew it. It happens.
The nature of the NCAAT is that the best team doesn't always come out on top. In a single game, anyone can get beat. It is both part of the fun and part of the madness of it.
In the loss, I do think Cal could have handled the last 4-6 minutes better, but guess what, nobody is perfect. The fact is that as long as Cal is here, more years than not, we are going to be in a position to win titles. You get in that position enough times, and you will get some. He's already brought us one, more will come. But it ain't gonna be a title every year even when we have the best team.

I'm a great fan and I started this thread! I love our coach and players. Not angry. Just want them to be the "best version of themselves."
It appears to me that the cats lost their fire. They seemed to get complacent about halfway through the SEC season and finished it out that way. There is a huge difference in their effort level from the KU game to the Wisconsin loss. When you watch the replays our guys were standing around flatfooted. If they played the Wisconsin game with the same effort that they had in the KU game we win going away.
Not to mention we never really had a good offense, I know what the efficiency numbers say but lets face it, our best offense was driving to get fouled. We had what might be one of the best pure shooters we have seen in ages but we never cared to get him the ball, he only got open looks off broken plays or kickouts.
Hopefully our defensive next season remains stout but our rebounding and offense greatly improve.

This team got worse as the season went on. Boredom? Dec 20th UK beats April UK by 15 to 20 points. One bad habit developed was turning it on for a few minutes to get the W.

Now that I have read this thread I'm prepared to post in the one that asks if Kentucky has the stupidest, most irrational fan base in America.
Kaminsky, Dekker, and Hayes are 3 first rounders. Yes, we potentially have 7 draftees, but they had the NPOY plus 2 NBA guys. But to answer your question....we lost due to poor play calling and execution down the stretch. Cal should've ran set after set to close out the game. As Coach of the Year, surely you have something in your back pocket to score. Eventually your going to run into defenders that can guard you one on one (a la Harrison's). Hindsight 20/20, but I wish Ulis was in there taking the ball to the rack 1 on 1.
We haven't sent 7 players from this team to the NBA. (Yet.) We think 7 players are leaving. Some may end up in Europe or elsewhere. At any rate, you only play 5 at a time. And players aren't robots. Even the 1927 Yankees lost a few games. 44 of them.
