How can NU be this bad?

I'll be honest. I'm very disappointed with the early results from Frost's tenure. I know that we had a lot of subpar recruiting classes and poor player development leading up to this season, but we look absolutely terrible. Div I-AA quality at best. I thought NU looked pretty good against CU even in the loss, but somehow has now completely imploded.

Are the players giving up on the new staff? Are there bad apples that need to be removed for the sake of the program? Was it wise to allow Frost to bring all of his old staff?

I'm at a point where I'd want to just redshirt all of the talented young players and fully throw in the towel on this season. NW is beating Michigan, so it is clearly hopeless.

I am disappointed as well, but we are playing alot of young players and we lack depth. I truly believe watching these players that they don't know how to win right now, they need good things to happen for them, when bad things happen the wheel kinda falls off.

After today I really don't know anymore. I wanted to put all the blame on the players and I still place much of the blame on them. This team has some talent, enough talent to compete and beat Purdue. We are getting beat on every side of the ball. It isn't just at a certain potion, where we need to recruit more talent. There isn't a good looking unit on this team. At some point the blame has to at least start falling on the coaches a little bit. I know we don't want to go down that path.

Jeff Brohm took over a pathetic Purdue program that had won 3 Big Ten games in the last 4 years, and had them in a Bowl Game in Year 1.

I like Scott Frost, but there's not a single person that predicted we would finish with a worse record this year than last year. It's quite probable that we will finish winless against FBS competition this year. You can't put all of that on the players.

Nobody cares...do you anything substantive to offer? It is your fault for expecting the team we had last year to suddenly be better than the team we had last year, especially when losing all scholarship qbs, installing new systems, and being forced to play a freshman or walkon at qb.

I agree, I have heard some say that we are worse than last year, and going by wins and losses we just might be worse but the only team we beat handily last year was Illinois. The 4-8 team last year could easily have been 1-11. At one point we were losing to ASU, Rutgers and Purdue. We have not been good on defense or offense for over three years and people expect us to be great year one.

At times we do good things on both sides of the ball and then we blow the next play. I am hoping that at some point they'll put it all together. Too many roster holes and some veterans who keep making mistakes veterans shouldn't make.

How many times do you have to tell players not to hit the QB 2 seconds after he's already let go of the ball, or when they are clearly out of bounds? The players make so many stupid plays game after game after game I just can't believe that the coaches aren't trying to get through to them. There are clearly a lot of low football IQ players on this team. It's really hard to watch it happen, but we have got to have patience. Anyone screaming for Frost's head already is a complete moron.

who expected this years team to be great? I keep hearing that on herehow unreasonable the fan expectations have been. Personally....I expected 4-5 wins (6 would be over achieving) over the typical teams that we should be able to beat. NO one expected greatness this year.

This team so far has looked like a terribly coached team...yes, I am saying that "The Frost" has not lived up to expectations that I had and other fans had. I still really believe he is the only one who can do anything at all with this hapless program. I am tired of hearing how this should have been expected and changes can't happen over-night...and relax, give him a chance. Who out there actual anticipated a winless season...which looks like a real possibility now?

No one expected (or at least should not have) a stellar year this year. I don't think a bowl game was out of the realm of what we could have expected (that's is until actual play started and we see how bad this team is playing)

But, the cause of some of this angst by the fans and the poor play by the players has got to rest with Scott Frost and the entire coaching staff.

My best guess is that we’re forcing the system rather than transitioning to it.

I’ll take that over the transition we had with our last staff. I want this team to be contending in three years. If that takes sacrifice today so be it.

I think part of this is on Scott's ego too. You take a guy and feed him all this coach of the year stuff from one successful season, and it can go to your head. You go to a much bigger stage, in front of a guy you really look up to, and you start crapping your pants.

I would feel better if he blamed the coaching staff more, but what we hear from him is: "We keep telling the players blah blah blah.."

I think it's time to hold him personally accountable. The more we do that, the angrier he will get, and the quicker he will get it fixed.

If that mean we lose every game year 1 and thing can turn around faster. I am ok with that. We won't know that until next year. If Next years team looks just as bad, then we have our answer.

I agree... You can’t possibly convince me that we have zero win talent or that our coaches are just this terrible. Nebraska as a team just doesn’t play well as one.

Everything except for the angrier part. I hope that Frost learns from all this.

Meh. The farther we get away from Cavanaugh and Diaco, the better we will get. The offense at times looks really close and the D about a third of the time looks like they're starting to get it. At some point it will come together. Unfortunately we still have a freshman QB and some guys who seem to keep confusing what we're trying to run now with one of the 2 other Ds they've learned in the past 3 years.

He clearly already has. There were quite a few different guys getting a chance to show what they could do today. Open auditions for guys who can get the mental part of things.

There's a lot to say about being disciplined. Five games in and they should be executing better. We looked pathetic today. We had a few good moments, but really, we got throttled at home. By Purdue.

I would add just the apathy or don't give a **** attitude even coach frost said he was told reserve players were laughing and dancing around when we were down 21. If I were a gambling man I'd bet there be more players gone than we thought at seasons end more turn over but it has to be

I do believe this team has a mentality that it is ok to lose. Hence the laughing and dancing round. It is no big deal to many of these guys. They came to expect it the last couple years. Yes this is maddening. Yes I believe Frost and the other coaches are partly responsible for how bad this team looks. We won't know for sure what Frost can do until, he get a year or 2 of mostly his recruits starting.

If they could just eliminate half of the brain dead penalties, they'd be so much better off. This team has a fetish for 15 yard penalties.

I wasn't expecting much (though certainly expected some wins) this year. I am happy with the offense putting up 580 yards and hopefully the points will start coming. Ozigbo looked great today. Adrian had moments of brilliance. So they're getting better on offense (imo) but they haven't improved enough to get wins.

The defense is a trainwreck and am hopeful they start playing the young guys even more. May as well take the defensive lumps this year. Just keep getting better

I'm probably alone in this but I really think if this team could just regain some confidence that it would have a huge impact on both sides. Eliminating the demoralizing brain dead penalties would be a miracle at this point.

Quotes from Frost to the effect of...

- How out of condition the players were upon starting to work on conditioning
- The consistent updates on muscle added, fat lost in conditioning
- How this offense could be special
- How they planned to be playing in the B1G championship
- How this team was as talented as his UCF players
- amongst other quotes

...didn’t help fan expectations. Sharing with your team is one thing, but putting it out to the public builds an expectation. If you don’t come close to living up to it, you deal with the fallout. That is what is now occurring.

Players have to take the game serious.

You saw those penalties. They don't care.
