One reason this is something the SEC would say Yes to is it makes season tickets easier to sell. You better believe SEC ADs and Sankey are sensitive to football season ticket sales right now.

Not to mention what networks would pay to get the added premier games.

Of course. I was pretty close to doing a short term rental on Lake Travis last summer seemed like a great place to socially distance. Also looked into South Congress. I haven’t been in 2021 though.

What do you think all this tv thing is for? It’s for advertisers. You do realize that’s why ESPN produces football broadcast right? ESPN provides good football games so that they generate more advertising dollars. Adding Texas allows espn to generate more big name games and in turn allows them to make more money, which in turn means the SEC gets to charge more for distribution rights.

It's still not exactly the same thing. Ratings change all the time. Potential viewers is a lot more reliable.

The reason SEC wants Texas despite Texas having run Aggie, Nebraska, Colo and Mizzou from the B12 is that SEC knows Texas cannot just have its way in the SEC. Texas learned the hard way that its arrogance can have negative repercussions. I’m sure it is somewhat humbling for Texas and OU to reach out to SEC.

Yeah I was sort of surprised that OK’s population is only larger than MS and AR in the SEC.

Which is why that AD said we would never take one of the Oklahoma schools, much less both of them.

No, it’s about getting viewers. That’s what advertisers pay for.

There are nearly 30 million people living in Texas. More people live in Texas than Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri and South Carolina combined. I think adding another team in that state is the right move. Further, it’s Texas not just any college in Texas. There will definitely be more money involved if Texas is brought in.

Not enough to off set the pie being cut into more slices. Besides that, Texas is poison. Ask Nebraska, A&M, and Mizzou.

Some of y'all actually sound excited about Texas. I have no objection to Oklahoma other than money, but Texas ain't in no shape, form, or fashion worth any amount of money. We have the best conference in college sports, without Texas. That won't change no matter where Texas goes. Texas has been trouble ever since the SWC broke up. They are poison. They are THE reason the Big 12 is on life support. They are a VERY bad risk.

So if TX and OK apply for membership, wouldn't the conference vote on each school individually and not as a package deal? Why not vote OU in and either try to pluck Virginia Tech, UNC or NC State from the ACC or ask OK St. to apply as well and vote them in? I wouldn't think OU would decline a chance to join the SEC.

I heard a local sports radio personality with an acknowledged bias toward the Dogs go on this morning about how Texas is going to be “embarrassed” and “have its manhood taken” when it plays in the SEC. I doubt this person has a clue what he is talking about but let’s assume he does. Isn’t this another reason to support Texas to SEC? Take the added money and don’t worry about Texas being competitive. As for Texas being “toxic” as his guest said, let’s assume that’s right as well. It will be one of 16 teams (or more). How could Texas possibly throw its weight around in SEC like it has done in B12? The easy answer is it won’t have any ability to do so. I think we need to jump on supporting Texas to the SEC like white on rice.
