Hot take- the play clock needs to drop back down to 25 seconds.

Continuous running clock and the team gets 25 seconds from the last down to snap it, unless the previous play is under review, there is an injury, or a timeout.

Go back to the pre2008 rules, basically

Pre 1988 was 25 seconds after the ball was spotted ready for play, which was usually about 15 seconds or so. But I agree somewhat. the pace of the game is much faster now. Time to cut the play clock to 35 seconds.

Pretty sure it was moved to 40 seconds in '08. Am I misremembering?
The ncaa committee wanted to make the game's pace of play more consistent at that time.
Player safety and whatnot.

Not convinced. I get that fewer plays = fewer opportunities it's for injury, but 40 seconds is way too long. 25 seconds makes both sides of the ball plan and execute faster, which makes for a more entertaining game.

Mistyped 88. I meant 08. I agree with you to a point. I think 40 is too long, but 25 not long enough.
