This Texas team is really really good. We objectively have one of the better offenses in the country and they made us look like scrubs at the plate tonight.

Lol, no we really don't. We feast on bad teams. We **** and fall back in it against the good teams.
Clearly we hit bad pitching better than good pitching, but we also haven’t been as bad as we were tonight very often. And our conference only hitting stats are all toward the top of the league.

Every poll and ranking in the country places us around 10th best and all the stats support us being among the better offenses in the country, but I'll just trust that you know better.,*****
What bugs me again. Is we had a scouting report on that pitcher. The same report the announcers had. The one that specifically says he leans on the breaker chasers! And what did our guys do? Chased it. Most of the swinging k’s were out of the zone. Many 1st pitch strikes were fastballs. But when you strike out 19 times out of 28 total outs, you got a lot of holes in those swings. Only 5 k’s were caught looking. 14 times they swung and missed. Of the 14 times, only 5 were off the plate. They swung through strike 3 9 times. Need to check the bats for holes in the middle!
Could we have had better execution at the plate? Sure. But you also have to tip your cap to an elite pitcher, too. Tonight is the fourth time in SEC play he struck out 11+ batters in a game. He’s as good as we will see all year.
There’s a reason that guy has almost 100 K’s and an ERA under 2.
Absolute truth. Hitting isn’t easy. It certainly isn’t easy when facing elite pitching.
Someone told me that State had elite talent. Even Top 5 talent. They were the D1 and ESPN and BA sports writers. Does Elite Level have that many swing and misses? They only scored 3 runs and scratched them across. But I didn’t see a lot of out of zone pitch chasing by their batters. Nothing like State. Normally the visiting team only gets 27 outs. Due to Reese strikeout/reach 1st on a wild pitch, State got 28 outs. And managed to strike out 19 times. The only way you can produce a run striking out is with the bases loaded, two outs, and you strike out on a passed ball/wild pitch.
Sure tip your hat to their entire pitching staff. But you gotta fix the problems that plague this team against good teams. Plate discipline. And that doesn’t always mean taking a lot of pitches. Sometimes the best pitch you will see is a 1st pitch fastball. I just see way too much guessing early in games. Who goes over the opposing pitcher scouting report with these guys?

Agree with most of what's been said and yet we still lost by 2 runs on the road to a for sure top 8 seed ball club. Heck we even barely out hit them. How we got six hits and still struck out so much almost makes no sense. Usually with that number of strikeouts the hits are much lower 2-3.
Our national championship team got shut out and no hit into the 8th inning in the CWS vs Va. When good teams face great pitching, pitching can make them look really bad for awhile, maybe an entire game. We were one big swing from tying or winning last night.
