In two years, Coach Frost has went from an undisputed nationwide coach of the year to the biggest disappointment in college football. Coming in from his previous accomplishments, he was unbelievably cocky.

Now he appears to be very humbled. Being humbled can be a very good teachable moment, depending on how he responds. I am hoping he can learn from this and respond in the right way. Unfortunately, Nebraska is paying big $ to have a coach in training, so hopefully he can learn and adapt quickly.

We need this to work and for it to work Frost needs to both take a hard look at his program and himself. He needs to evaluate what we are doing and where we are going. There is nothing wrong with philosophical changes. He also needs to evaluate himself and be true to himself. I am afraid he is letting the pressure and expectations change him. Players signed on to play for him and play hard for him because of who he is. If he believes in being a players coach, playing and coaching carefree, etc. he can’t let the pressure change him. You have to be who you are, you can’t be Bo Pelini one minute and Mike Riley the next, be yourself.

I would still agree with this. Frankly, even considering the few guys that are talented, the aggregate needs to improve dramatically for Nebraska to be competitive. Wandale, a good Martinez, Speilman, a few Dbs, maybe Mills flashing some skills that's about all we have at this point. Still a total rebuild, which is why Frost is pretty stoic at this point. He needs to keep the wheels on his confidence level.

The task is great, he needs to recruit huge numbers and bring in studs asap. I've seen a lot easier jobs that the one he has right now.

Getting beat because we aren’t as fast, or strong is one thing, but Nebraska is getting beat because they can’t block, they can’t tackle, they can’t get lined up properly, and the play calling is very suspect at times.
Talent is an issue when playing teams like Ohio State. Talent is NOT the issue against Indiana and Purdue.

I can see what frost and the dc want to do. The question is will we get the horses (with the mental capacity) to do it? Constant whining by fans on social media is probably detrimental to that end. So it's probably better to focus on going forward here on out.

100% agree, there are offensive coordinators for a reason. The HC needs to focus on being a HC and managing all sides not just the offense. If he wants to be an OC he shouldn't have become a head coach.

Mike Riley had Top 20 recruiting classes.

Not so much about the jimmies and Joes either. Its about having the jimmies and Joe's in the program for a few years. We've had several recruiting classes ranked 20 or a bit higher where half or so of the players are gone.

I put this on different thread, but it applies here. We played approx 7 former four stars on defense against Purdue and a few more 5.7 three stars. So far we’re not necessarily recruiting much better than that. For each stud we may have in the fold we’ll also be losing some other “good” players. Sometimes there’s recruiting busts for sure, but across the board it may point to development.
Aside from some bad play calls I see offensive problems point squarely to lack of talent and execution.
On defense, the talent/execution issue may be there but it also seems like the scheme/knowledge may be lacking... after two years in the system.
That’s my biggest concern right now. Teams with less “talent” are playing better defense.
I don’t know enough, but Frost is gonna have to take a long hard look at what the defense is doing and figure out how to get more out of it.

He needs some session time in the "off" season and huddle with the likes of a Saban or Meyer and get their perspective on what he can do better. Nothing wrong with learning from your betters.

I feel like most coaches look at the talent level they acquired taking over a coaching job, and change their schemes to work with said talent. In Frosts case I don’t think he has changed his schemes to work with the talent he has. But who really knows.

Unfortunatley for him if he fails here is coaching career is over. At least for any p5 programs. I assume he realized that when he took the job. You fail at a p5 program there are very few if any who will give you another shot.

Or, if he is going to be so involved in the offense, find someone that can run a good defense without needing intervention from the HC.

Either he'll be humbled and grow from in, or he'll get used to losing like the rest of the team. The next 2 yrs are going to be rough and he'll still have a losing record after 4 yrs of being our coach. Do you think this fan base will be OK with that?

Frost is overpaid...that doesn't mean he needs to be treated like he is a finished product or can't have disappointing seasons. He was offered the money because we were negotiating from a position of weakness. We have had a series of complete breakdowns of competence for the last 16 years with one reactionary decision after another from Pedie, to T.O, to Eichorst, to Moos. The fan base has been complicit in every decision. Wanting a 9 win coach fired, not once, but twice...leaving a power vacuum that could only be filled by a coach desperate for a job. I was hoping that our fall into nothingness over the last decade and half would have cleared out the stupid fans but I fear the responsible fans have left for other things or interests. Things that they can control. The only ones left are those who take pleasure in misery, who are attracted to the drama of watching better men fail over and over and over...

Actually in both cases of nine win in a season coaches being fired they were both fired for their own doings more than they were there lack of success although it probably played a part both times. However you cannot ignore both of them were fired for cause more than their records!

There's no guarantee had Nebraska gone a different direction and hired someone besides Solich that success would have gone on for years and years, keeping Nebraska at or near the top.

Who was out there that would have come in and kept the status quo without taking the team in a new direction? A coach outside of the family so to speak would have eventually gone away from what was and made Nebraska football different, and that doesn't mean the difference would have been all that good.

Domino effect. TO stays around a few more years. Frank moves on. We then have the pick of any coach we want. What we got was an AD upset he couldn't do his job and left for aTm. We then get steve pederson. Who never want Frank as a coach and failed hard on his job to replace said coach. It just a generalization how we got here but it was the start
