But their fans think they are.
This is how they still see themselves... elite.

Rutger has the least likable bunch I’ve seen a while. To let those clowns absolutely punk us and basically spit in our faces is beyond comprehension. I doubt if a single guy on that roster would ever sniff a scholarship offer from IU, but here they were kicking us and laughing at us.

Coaching or no coaching, when did IU kids get so damn soft? No pride at all.

Booby Knight was (is) an arrogant, obnoxious out of control pompous @$$.

Whether any of our recruits would be offered by IU isn't the case.

Who would you rather have: your center or Myles (he also blocked 7 shots!): I'lll take Myles.

Who would your rather have your guards or Geo, Jacob: I'll take the latter.

Who would you rather have your bench or Mulcahy, Cliff and Mathis: I'll take our bench.

Who would you rather have your forward or RHJ: I'll take junior.

Who would you rather have your coach or Pike: I'll take Pike.

I'm not sure that any of your prized recruits would be starting for Rutgers... RU?

Case closed... now turn off the lights and close the door on the way out.

How many Final Fours have they been to since they chased Knight out of town?
Actually they went to the National final vs Maryland in 2002 with Mike Davis as coach.
Mostly Knight’s recruits though
Funny how those are the last 2 teams we played, and were favored in both games.
Both programs no longer in that top tier..

I think 25 years ago you could say that IU, UK, KU, UCLA, UNC were all around the same spot as programs when weighing past history and recent history. They've really separated with IU and UCLA not quite keeping up. They've had some good years but it's pretty hard to suggest they should be mentioned with any of the others anymore.

its a really rough job, same for UCLA, expectations out of wack and kids who would rushing to go to those schools do not see the point of going there now when there are better options available. Those days are over.

its going to take the right coach to win there but more importantly the right type of recruiting. Right now I dont see Indiana program wise any better than a Iowa or Illinois at this point and that is a major slip from being a top 10 program like they were in the 70s and 80s....Program wise Indiana still is above RU, history does carry some weight but RU has clearly shown they can beat them regularly. In another decade perhaps RU will be considered at the same level as all the upper tier Big 10 schools.

I don't think RU could get to that perception level in 10 years. Think about Baylor, they've been really good for over a decade now and I still think of them as just barely emerging from that single-roster flash-in-the-pan type status.
