I'll admit, I haven't read much of this thread, so what I'll say may have already been covered:
I truly think the root cause of our troubles is the current climate in college basketball. ****, basketball, in general. Adam Silver has proposed some fairly crazy ideas to attract interest in the NBA, from fan and player. That said, I'm not letting Cal off the hook, either. He hasn't been able to adapt, as he once did. He used to be a master motivator. Adapt to his personnel. Learn from mistakes. He's not really doing that, now. While it's certainly true, he's been wildly successful at UK. It's also certainly true that most of that success happened the first half of his time at UK.
So, what to do? Well, big picture, basketball, as a sport, must fix what's broken. The NCAA either needs to enforce it's rules the same for each member institution, or it needs to end. There's a reason Mark Emmert is so worried about fan perception of the NCAA, these days. It's a giant scam. And the average fan is seeing it exposed, laying bare for all to see. The cash cow is in danger of dying. And it will only get worse as our society ages. Kids today don't view sports the same as older folks.

Cal has a tiger by the tail. He CAN coach but his recruiting strategy doesn’t permit it.

He spends the entire year teaching basketball 101. Wash, rinse, and repeat.

In the tourney he’s so desperate that he micromanages them to close losses They never become experienced enough to be trusted to just play and win.

Will certainly be interesting to see what happens roster wise after this season is over.
HE has created this monster(nba) and either doesn't know how to/ won't fix it. He has won HIS NC, has a lifetime job with no pressure so there really us no incentive to change. According to many, himself included, on this board he is above reproach and cannot be criticized no matter what. He is trying to put a square peg into a round hole because he can no longer get the best of the best , but is still coaching like he does.

cal will be missed when he is gone just anyone can not coach at ky
Funny, but the last time I checked only the two guys that had alcohol problems did not win a NC at UK. The same thing was said about Rupp in his day. Like Al Maguire once said ..."they had it before you and they'll have it after you." # WE ARE UK!

Nope. Boss
I thought you would have more to say.

I mean, this is like Christmas for you. You get to run around the board claiming more people than ever are part of the CLOD because we dare question Cal for taking a top 5 team and making them.look totally uncoached.

Cal’s biggest issue is not filling out the roster and constant turnover. You need the Derrick Miller’s of the world to succeed. No reason to not have 3 or 4 four year players.

I don’t expect Cal to be gone. But if we keep trending down I could see Mitch forcing Cal to give the ax to some assts. or do it himself. Something has to change.

Mitch isn’t going to do anything. Near the end of Tubby’s reign everyone was saying he needed to replace his assistants. Nothing happened. Mitch did nothing.

Won’t matter. Haters have been trying to gank me for years. It’s easy for me in this case. Numbers are irrefutably support me.

No leg for Nancy boys to stand on. Cal will be here till he wants to leave. All the little hater bitches will just have to cry.
I get it, you hate negative comments, but a lot of the people you are grouping into your "clod" are people that are diehard fans that love UK more than you know and they (me) hate seeing our top 3 team with all this 5* talent + veterans, look totally uncoached and watching them lose games to Evansville and Utah is sickening.

It's a long off season after a crap season.

Top 3? Based on.....? Sports writers votes? LOL Standard hater approach. Place something obscenely high so it appears to fall further. It’s like the cry babies that bleat over not winning championships when gaps are often 18 20 years.

You have to be profoundly ignorant to not to expect there is huge variation in how a given team can play. You have to be desperate to bash to mention five star talent while ignoring youth. But you are doing all these Jeff. I expected better.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses for why we suck.

If coached properly, we have a top 3 team. We just went toe to toe with a legit top 5 team and should have won, even though we have no offensive rhythm or plan. We had a shot to win even though this team does nothing well at all.

If this team had Utah's offensive structure, we beat Ohio State going away.

But if you're going to use that tired *** ******** "youth" excuse again, I gotcha by the balls. Who's fault is it that we're always young? Who created the culture that is currently in place at UK? It wasn't "THE CLOD".

It doesn't matter what argument you throw out there Bass, the problem begins and ends with Calipari.

What did he say in 2010? "I can't hide you… " . Know what was happening? Those transcendent players (Wall, Cuz, Knight, AD, Townes etc…) were hiding Calipari. The only way this bowling ball offense works, is with pg's and bigs that are top 5 game changers (West Virginia showed us in 2010 that even with legit stars, it still sucks).

Now that we're getting lower tiered players, we see that this "DDMO" is nothing more that fairly organized streetball. It's garbage and Cal needs to step aside and let KP coach offense. It worked at South Carolina in 2016. The offense ran like a top when Cal got thrown out.

Just the biased opinion of a bitter little man. Irrelevant, wrong. Unsupportable. Pathetic.

If we miss the ncaa tourney.........its gonna be because of the competition in the sec reg season and tournament. You just never know what will happen, the future is especially not certain for UK basketball. BUT, Cal usually peaks toward the end of the season with his teams. I hope he can figure out what WILL work with this team.

That’s your opinion bass. We all have them.
I hope I'm wrong, if I am, I'll buy you the drink of your choice.
Trust me, I'm not bitter and I'm not little, just a guy that wants the best for UK.

I’d like to see Cal prepare for the other team sometimes. It’s obvious the staff spends almost zero time preparing a game plan to exploit the other team. I know he has stated that he doesn’t in the past. Other teams prepare specifically for us every single time due to it being a statement game.

Maybe he chooses to only focus on his team because they are so new every year and lack much of the knowledge and fundamentals needed until late in the season? Someone can probably explain it better than me.

Unfortunately this year, like a couple of years ago with the SGA/Knox team, they just aren’t very good. I’m sure they will make the tournament and win a few games, but unless the staff works some magic, this year doesn’t have a great outlook.

Are there too many people out there against Cal for him to succeed at a high level anymore? Some of the cheating and suspect officiating tells me he has enemies for sure.

I’ll stay as optimistic as I can in the meantime and hope to be pleasantly surprised. Count me on the side of some staff/coaching philosophy changes being needed. I just coach from my arm chair though.

No reason not to study the other team. Take away their tendencies and challenge their best player. It is lazy not to do so in my opinion.

I want to preface this by saying Cal has given us one of if not the best 10 year run in UK history.

I think Cal has to do what Billy D did at Florida. Billy had several good team, but never mode it over the hump. Made the title game once in that time. He was a really good offensive coach, but lacking on D (heh heh). He went and brought in a defensive specialist style coach and a few years later they went back to back off a recruiting class no one expected it from.

Cal needs to swallow his pride, and bring in an offensive specialist. Too many times, we have one man dribbling, three men standing still, and one man moving. Doesn't work.

All that being said, we still make the elite 8 this year.
