IPO marketing hype.
Possibly. Seems counterintuitive though. You usually want to show growth during an IPO. Don’t think the marketing would pay off for the lost growth. Doesn’t make much sense.

No real thoughts, it seems a voluntary request that could be complied with or not. The NSA already has backdoors into all these companies operating systems as does Israel I'm sure.
I guess my question was whether you agree with it. You have been calling for more regulation, I was wondering if this is the type of regulation you want?

Micron crushes even high expectations. Trading 15% after earnings beat.

Bubble not popping yet

Wow. It’s crazy to think but Micron is undervalued. It’s still only trading like ~10x fwd earnings.

Its true

Meanwhile, AI model prices are increasing significantly due to rising operational costs and demand for advanced features. Companies are facing challenges as subscription models become less sustainable, leading to higher charges for users.
Would this be a good sign for human labor? That is, does increasing token cost make it more cost effective to use humans?

Explain what you do
A lot more than just own stocks.

I own stocks just like you do, as I’m sure you are an investor. I manage my own retirement portfolio.

My day job is
Market maker
Portfolio manager
Algorithmic day trader, Options Bonds Futures
Venture Capital
Financial Analysis
property manager
House of Politics and Off Topics board troll

That doesn’t include my philanthropic activities

I have never inherited a penny and have worked for every dollar I have.

I hear people like you criticize my profession saying we don’t “make” anything. Valid criticism, not saying I love my profession, it’s just what the world lead me to and I have bills to pay raising 4 children. I won’t be doing this much longer and am looking to get into other things where I don’t have to stare at computer all day. Seemed like you were trying to insinuate I inherited a bunch of money and sit around and do nothing all day, and that could not be further from the truth. I bust my аss for my family as I’m sure you do

Seems there is a big battle between open and closed source models ? China keeps
Releasing their models for a much lower price , when OpenAI etc still charge a premium.

It sounds like the models may turn out to be a dime a dozen, and hardware is the constraint?

I haven’t looked into these latest Chinese models but my general rule of thumb is to be skeptical that they’ve actually made legit progress by novel model/training decisions. Typically they use distillation to indirectly “steal” the model weights from the giants such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini.

The debate around open vs closed model weights is potentially the most important technological debate of our lifetimes (assuming AGI occurs during our lifetimes, which is not given).

The only other science and technology issue I can think of that has such wide spread implications is batteries, which we’ve been trying to improve for a long time and need a serious breakthrough soon
