I also see an FBI report quoting a Kansas coach who said Zion's family asked for cash.

But you obviously don't think they asked for the same package from Duke.

It's sanctimonious Duke fans like you who give your school a bad reputation, man. Seriously. If I was a Duke fan, I'd just own up to the fact that K has gone down a dark alley by bringing in the likes of Duvall, Bagley, and Zion.

I'd also be thrilled that he's bringing them to Durham and I'd own up to it that it's shady as hell. But you're above all that, right?[laughing]

Actually, I could easily see a situation where perhaps Zion's family asked for money, etc. but then were scared off by the FBI. I think this is easy to believe.

The events played out as Kansas looked to be the favorite, FBI says they have a wiretap of a Kansas assistant discussing payments to Zion's family, Zion picks different school. To me this could easily be seen as Zion's parents not wanting to get in trouble so they picked a school with the promise of playing time, exposure, great facilities, etc.

It just doesn't add up that Zion's family would only ask Kansas and Duke for money but not ask Kentucky, UNC, Clemson, South Carolina, etc. for money. All have deep pockets.

There’s a difference between saying I don’t believe there’s been any wrongdoing as opposed to believing that Duke put the kids family in that house. You can’t hide something like that. It’s IMPOSSIBLE. It’s just goes against all common sense. Approximately 7 months (Sept the March) in that house and you want me to believe there’s NO EVIDENCE beyond rivals message boards? No sightings no nothing. No kids going to school? It’s impossible to hide. Impossible.
You are correct,Duke didn't try to hide anything. They don't need to hide stuff,it is a waste of time

I would like nothing more than k to go down. But everyone outside of mabye UK especially here in Kansas now likely he didn’t pay anyone. I do believe like all other schools Nike is paying kids behind the scenes but no way does these coaches know about it.

Why need to see another school/coach/ system get killed along with just the game to root for? Isn’t that enough?
No one can prove who’s paying what or where- what is fact is these players / this system is rigged and likely every school has 2. It’s a waste other than to blow off xtra steam
Why is no one yelling Clemson and Alabama football?

I think that if they asked Kansas and Duke, they certainly would have asked Kentucky. However, I have read on this site that Calipari will stop recruiting a kid with his hand out, but he never stopped recruiting Zion.

So there are a few scenarios...

He only asked Kansas and Duke for money, which makes no sense on earth. If you're bidding out your services and have six schools to choose from, you don't just ask two and be done with it.

The second scenario is he asked Kansas for something but the FBI investigation scared the family from asking/taking from any other school

The third is that Zion's family didn't ask for anything but the Kansas assistant was embellishing when talking about it.

Bottom line is, if his hand was out, all the schools would have known or had some idea what was going on, but no school backed off including Calipari. So, this would lead me to believe that after the FBI wiretap came out, Zion's family stopped asking.

That’s not what I said. Of course he didn’t play for free. Most top 5-10 recruits I would imagine don’t. If you believe they do at ANY school then I have much to sell you as well. Whether it’s the school, boosters, local businesses etc MOST of these kids are getting SOMETHING beyond that scholarship.

With that said, no, I don’t believe Duke put anyone in a million dollar home. It’s only a message board rumor.

With all the smoke and inuendos and flat out accusations coming out recently, does anybody believe Duke/Coach K will ever have to face the NCAA music ? That would be my ultimate dream but I just do not see it happening. Question. Why do the national media and talking heads fawn over Duke like they do?
Some people see the iron curtain as a good thing.

Excellent programs stand the test of time. Players come and go, coaches come and go, but excellent PROGRAMS survive and thrive. Lets stop this silly nauseating Duke talk, its about to end because people retire. I refer you to Indiana... to UCLA... they are not relevant because they did not survive one great coach. Kentucky is the finest college basketball program of all time. Weve had many great coaches and many great players because we stand the test of time. Long after Im gone, kentucky will be hanging banners.

I know knight mentored K but comparing a creep like K to the general is just wrong. Knight was respected by all his peers coach K is a rat fink. Bob knight never cheated and demanded that his players go to class you can't say that for duke anymore

You don't know that about Duke. Duke has not had the opportunity to prove it's staying power as a PROGRAM. K is still there obviously. What you mean is that you HOPE Duke becomes like Indiana or UCLA. There's plenty of money, prestige, resources and support for Duke to continue to be an elite PROGRAM. It won't continue to be like it was with K, as that would be impossible for just about any program, but to pretend like you know Duke will completely fall off the map is nothing more than you projecting your wishes at best, and well, that's okay.
