A cowardly, and ultimately ineffective, attack that leads to unconditional surrender? #theBigE
An attack that our government knew was coming , yet, let so many Americans get slaughtered. So, what's new.

Of course, from age 17 to my 50's, I would have whipped the fcvk out of 'em. At age 70, you improvise.

School is just 'day care' for parents who don't want to deal with their kids.

Naturally, the schools don't want to deal with the kids either they just want the free govt money.

The whole thing is a scam..

Child labor laws should be illegal... kids should be put to work. That's what your parents and grand parents and great grandparents did.

Really? Your parents did not go to school?

Who are the nut jobs?

I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of people I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description ["nut-jobs"], and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it, and there are plenty in this thread.

Thats fine. I was just curious if you felt that way about people home school their kids.
I married a teacher and now we home school our kids. I'm in the middle of this one.

Your attempt to sound like some type of intellectual is laughable.

Contrary to you, I at least have the balls to address who my slam is intended for Professor Wannabe.

Jaemekon, I'll give you a pass, but, now I'm gunning for BTF69. LOL

Would have responded a long time ago, but my computer reset and it took parts of the day to get logged in.
Had to finally change my damn password, what a low budget operation.
My son told me it was a PEBKAC. (Problem exists between keyboard and chair).

What's it like?
Honestly, I am at a great school, so it is super easy and pretty fun.

I get paid "pretty well", get a teacher retention bonus, big raise for next year and the year after.

But the real bonus is that I get to control kids minds and tell them HOW TO VOTE!!! All day long I make sure THEY KNOW how they should vote.

I want to write something very smart assed about gender transitioning, but its even too much for me.

Good teachers deserve more pay. I honestly agree with that. Bad ones need to get bounced easier.

There are probably not a lot of "bad teachers" most leave the field in the first 3-5 years.

What you probably mean is "burnt out", it is tough to go to work and work with people that are basically doing all the can to resist what you are trying to do each day.

I have taught at places where I asked kids to open up to page 42 and was told to "**** off" and that "my grandpa will come down here and make you rest in pieces"

I cant imagine what you are up against now. Teachers and cops have thankless jobs. Jobs I don't want and cant do.

What I mean is teachers who are underperforming for whatever reason. In my world, you can show under performers the door. It appears unnecessarily difficult to do in the school districts I have been around. A minor gripe I have is when I hear teachers complaining about pay. I agree this should be changed, but this shouldn't catch teachers off guard. Mediocre pay and summers off are well known to all who enter the profession. Great teachers deserve to be paid a lot. Forking over more money to teachers in a broken system doesn't seem like the answer though.

How do you fix disrespectful kids and parent who back them up? I have no idea.

So the problem is...how YOU decide what a "good teacher" is...

It is like parenting. I know LOTS of great adults that crap on their parents and how they were raised...but yet, they turned out great.

Makes me think.

Teachers that complain about the pay are probably really telling you this

"Your kids are annoying as **** and YOU do nothing to help us...it is not worth it"

Summers off, okay I get that, but most people work from home now, which means they are 365 days a year off.

You had us until the most work from home and it's not really working ****.

I get it, many parents today and imo the school administration do not help teachers. Discipline is a foreign word too most. Dealing with little brats today would have most of us fired and possibly charged with assault.

But PLEASE teachers f@cking just admit summers off is an awesome thing that most people can't even dream of. And don't get me started on pensions.

I wouldn't decide. I assume that good teachers and admin know who the dead weight is and can decide that for themselves. I married a teacher and heard her coworkers complain about the pay...constantly. Prior to bringing my kids in for homeschooling, we didn't hear teachers complain to us about their pay. As far as me doing nothing, I bought a 3D printer for the the school to enhance their Science/Engineering curriculum. My plan was to roll this out to low income school and have engineers come in and show the faculty how to use them. Ultimately, I got close to zero feedback an I let the idea die.
There is room for improvement in my company. There is room for improvement in the public school system. Nobody should be defensive about it.

I'm stealing this from somewhere and paraphrasing, but - imagine the thing you know the most about. Now think about how most people write and talk about that thing, on social media, etc. and how utterly ignorant they are.

That's what it's like for me when I read peoples' takes on education. Everybody went to school somewhere, sometime in their life, so that makes them an expert. I get it. Just like all the doctors that got their degree from WebMD.

No offense to anyone. I'm definitely down for substantive discussion.

Fair point.
Have you done everything your doctor tells you to do? Have you ever gone for a second medical opinion? Have you ever changed doctors?
I am cool with a discussion.

For the record, we home school because my wife is an educator and it fits with a lifestyle we wanted for our kids. Most people probably shouldn't.
