Regardless of what some Husker fanatics may think, NU could benefit from just trying to be an Iowa type program with much better recruiting.
The talent gap is a myth, perpetuated by the Riley supporters. Talent development, however, is not a myth. And Nebraska currently has none.
What type of program did we think we were before? We perennially rank about 10-20 spots above Iowa in recruiting, yet, they have consistently beat us since Riley became head coach.

Fair warning. This is reminiscent of 2008 against Penn St. A young team that beats a top ranked team in Kinnick and wins out. Then went 10-0 in 2009 until Stanzi got hurt. Went to OT in Columbus for the big ten title and won a BCS bowl.
Tough games to go in Madison and Nebraska is playing better so I'm not overly confident there. But, Iowa is gonna be good next year with a half way relaxed schedule compared to this year.

Couple more lopsided losses for THE Blowhard State University, and even the CFB pundits might drop them out of playoff contention.

Proves my point. If a mediocre coach like Ferentz can get occasional 9 win seasons and win once or twice a decade vs. OSU then it shows just how bad Riley is
Mediocre meaning average? Definitely not. Not a superior coach but much better than average.
A 4 time coach of the year =mediocre? Maybe you think all teams have criminals, roids, and weak conferences to coach with.
I think Ferentz is a good coach, and he's a helluva lot better than the one in Lincoln. And I like Mike Riley, one helluva guy and has a overall winning record as a college coach (.541 as of yesterday), but he is way behind the Ferentz bus as far as I'm concerned.
