We got Milton Bradley for 6 million this year, and 10 million next year, and (hold your breath) 13 million the year after that.....

he's having an average year and his numbers seem to be declining pretty severely over the last 2 years.

The "experts" seem to want to blame it on him not being familiar with AL pitching. He has been extremely hot since the break though.

still wanted his bat in the line-up over Bradley...the Cubs would be a much better team if it was

Sure, the Cardinals have had success with middle of the road guys, most often pitchers it seems. But lets don't drink too deeply of the BS that was presented to us time after time after time during All Star week about St. Louis. It's a great baseball town - we get it. Thank you Joe Buck and Tim McCarver for your waxing poetic about it all night during the game. By the way, tt's also a terrible football town and has no basketball so what a shock that baseball is king. Players "play on a new level" when they are "introduced to STL" though??? Please.

you're definitely right about those, but I'm thinking more along the lines of midseason trades and the last time we had a trade near this magnitude was Larry Walker and if you remember he ended up putting up some good numbers that year on the way to the world series. P.S. 101 years

Mulder went 16-8 with a 3.64 ERA his first season. It was his second year is when the injuries started.

Ronnie Belliard made huge defensive plays to help the Cardinals make it to the WS. That's what he was brought in to do.

I like getting Holliday. I don't like giving up Brett Wallace to get him. I really think very highly of Wallace and I think he will be a great replacement for Eric Chavez in the near- possibly very near if he doesn't get healthy- future.

LaRussa loves Holliday for some reason. I think he's a very good player, but not worth giving up your top prospect for. What this tells me is that the Cardinals are going to stay with DeRosa and then try to re-sign Holliday in the offseason.

And Holliday does bat RH. I saw him play last night, and you had me thinking that my eyes were messed up or something. It was really late when they started the game, though, so I wasn't sure.

I should have known something was up when they traded Chris Duncan yesterday. Now the outfield is some combination of Holliday, Rasmus, Ludwick, and Ankiel.

I guess Julio Lugo will be a SS or a utility guy. I think Brenden Ryan has done a serviceable job there, though. I like DeRosa as a player, I don't like his age though. Plus, like I said, I really think that Brett Wallace is going to be an All-Star type player in the future.

Ryan has been more than serviceable. He has turned into a very solid SS defensively and he's not too bad the bat either.

As far as Wallace goes. He is an AL player and destined to be a DH/1B. His defense was still suspect especially when he started at 3rd. Now could they have held on to him for a more viable trade? Yes absolutely. But now it is what it is but the criticism that Mo and front office is getting from people in St Louis is just unreal.

Last year he was criticized because he didn't make any moves. I think he's learning, and I think he's trying to do better as a GM in general and I think he is doing better. But the reality is he probably wasn't ready to be the GM of the Cardinals.

I think there is at least some rift between him and LaRussa from last year when Mo basically stood pat when the Cardinals had a chance to make a run. I honestly wouldn't be shocked at all if Mo is gone in two years, depending on how these trades work out.

Oh no doubt that La Russa and Mo dont have the best relationship but TLR seems pretty pleased with the moves. The offense has no excuse to try and produce consistently now.

They get tested this weekend and next week. @Philly tonight and this weekend then back home against the Dodgers and Astros.

When Larry Walker was traded in 2004 to the unquestioned baseball mecca off the country planet universe, he was putting up this line in the 38 games he had played: .324BA/.464OBP/.630 slugging.

In his time breathing the crisp, baseball-infused air of St. Louis, he put up these numbers in 44 games: .280BA/.393OBP/.560 slugging.

At risk of exposing my McClurianish tendencies, I come up with:
-.044 in BA
-.071 in OBP
-.070 in slugging

Furthermore, if you take those numbers and call them his full season numbers, which they weren't, but if they were.....the average and OBP would have been the lowest he had posted since 1996 and the slugging would have been one of the lowest of his career.

and not Holliday or DeRosa. There is no argument St. Louis just went from pretender to contender. Also, that "Go Cubs Go" song is the gayest thing i have ever heard in my entire life.

Milton Bradley vs Matt Holiday is like Croom vs Pete Carroll. If you would learn to read you would understand the posts are about the expected surge in stats for Holliday now that he is in St. Louis. Fo shizzle.

I don't think the Cubs could have signed Holiiday. He wasn't a FA. The Rockies traded him for Huston Street and others. They could have signed Adam Dunn or Raul Ibanez, though.

everyone who says St. Louis is a great baseball town and that players that go to St. Louis via trade usually up there production. So I responded to your sarcasm of St. Louis and their fans with a comment about Milton Bradley. You were taking a swipe at The Cardinals and their fans, therefore I was taking a shot of the Cubs pathetic signing of Bradley (and his decreased production that has ensued). So, yes, you brought The Cubs into this with your comment and your Ryne Sandberg signature jersey.

Bradley is obviously not having the kind of year the Cubs were hoping for, but at least he's not making a lot of outs. His OBP is right around .380. That might be the best on the team.

If he comes back next year or the year after and puts up a .999 OPS like he did last year, that contract won't look too bad.

I would still rather have Dunn.
