Is it that easy to memorize a college playbook where you are crisp enough to call plays in the heat of a game with a week on the staff?

I do wonder how you work in something like that mid year when he wasn’t even a part of the program a week ago.

Then I remember how bad our offense has been and how it couldn’t be any worse.

My guess is Rhule had him reviewing film weeks ago, just didn't tell anyone.

Me thinks he’s had a copy of the playbook for quite a while and has been breaking down film as well. Would assume he has a month or so of time he’s been working behind the scenes.

It can always get worse........... Hopefully not, I think it was the right move, noone had confidence in Satt and hopefully gives our players some mojo to finish the season.

So USUALLY you just have a game plan with with plays for that week that you have installed. I would not imagine it would be a huge issue. They won't have the entire playbook out there for the game.

I know who Holgorsen is, but haven't followed him that close. Someone break it down for me: out of all the OC's in CFB right now, where does he rank? A hire? B hire? C hire?

Wowzers....seems like a big boy move does it not?

I guess the way I would look at it is like this:
1) Try to salvage the season. Not improving upon last year’s record is a bad sign, and not going to a bowl game is a big letdown to the seniors. Do better.
2) He came to the logical conclusion that Holgerson is much better at this through examination of the historical results of both coaches. Duh.
3) It signals to the players and the fans that you are willing to do what it takes to win and make up for past mistakes in personnel.

Just listening to Rhule talk about the locker room in the presser today, just doubles down on my point that we need this senior and probably junior class to graduate and hope that they didn't infect the youngsters too much with their mind virus. I agree with you points above as well.,

Not sure about a grade without a pretty deep dive into how much of a role he played in the offense at his last 2 HC gigs and how effective those teams were offensively. He hasn't been a stand-alone OC for like 15 years. But I'll just put it this way, had Rhule named him OC when he was first hired, I probably would have said...holy crap, Rhule is going out and getting the best available.

i wonder if he's dry yet? you guys have suffered enough with that behavioral issue. otherwise, not a bad hire. dana has proven he can coordinate offenses. he's just not a head coach personality.

I guess I don't know why you would announce it today.

They should have just proceeded with the public believing Satt will call play with Dana here as another set of eyes.

Why give USC 5 days to watch old teams of Dana and how he calls plays versus Satt? Let USC practice for 5 days of being ready to defend the guy who has called plays for 21 games?
