“Holgorsen and Riley were together on Mike Leach’s Texas Tech staff for five years, with Holgorsen's departure to Houston helping lead to a promotion for Riley.

“ ‘He was probably the guy on the Texas Tech staff all those years, along with Mike that I was closest with,” Riley said. “He's a tremendous coach. I've got a lot of respect for him. A great friend — was very, very helpful to me, certainly, as a young coach, so I owe him a lot. I've got a lot of gratitude.’”

That would be a humorous take but I think a more interesting take is that concerns that we’d go full Air Raid and mostly abandon the run ala Leach might be overstated. USC runs the ball. And I think Holgersen did at WVU as they probably have more wintry weather days than Lincoln.

Agree, but didn't he also assemble a staff? How did they fair? Im not flaming, honest take. Maybe Dana knows how hard it can be. Maybe he doesn't think like a rabid fan. Maybe he is flattered that people he thinks don't suck asked for and value his opinion. I could be way wrong. Maybe he knows when he fixes the worst offense in power 5 he gets a great head coach gig with a 2nd golden parachute. Maybe he just loves to compete and loves a challenge. None of us know. We are just fans.
