Because, of the "experts" on the main page telling everyone that in there valued expertise, Schiano is the best Coach for Rutgers. And, the rest here believe it, with absolutely no proof from a failed, at best 500 winning % Coach. They must be Liberals.

If he was smart he would avoid paying him at all. Once, you hire a Schiano, it will be very difficult to fire him. Because, he will always do just enough to justify the hire. But, he will never take this team to where everyone here wants it to go. Mediocrity is another word for success, to people that have been used to being losers.

No, Schiano doesn't bring coffee to ANYONE, including his wife. He was very much, a hands on DCoordinator. But, remember Ohio State, last year, had one of the worst D's in the Country.....So, maybe he should have concentrated more on coffee, and less on the D...To be clear on the type of D Coach that he is...he believes(or did), that a constant pressure D, will force bad plays from the Offense. And, he's right when you play against inferior competition. But, with a decent team, OLine, good QB, that D will and has been burned. Which accounts for his 500 record at Rutgers. Against, the cupcakes he will be successful, but get beat by everyone else. So, if your happy with 5 and 5 every year, hire Schiano!

i know hobbs wants to do a “national search” so that he can’t be criticized that he already had ash’s successor lined up, but we all know that Schiano is the right coach at exactly the right time that we need him.

Plus, by dicking around we are losing very value time.

While Nunzio coaches the rest of this year, Schiano can be recruiting, closing ( which is what he does best) the deal with top recruits, and researching and putting together the best staff possible.

We need Schiano on board sometime in October the latest.

It is a State of New Jersey position. Once the job is opened ut needs to be posted for a certain period. Then once a selection is made it will need to be approved by BoT. Sorry but it is a process

I agree . We are not some directional Michigan university that has a revolving door of coaches from all walks of life. Our situation is unique and we can’t ust plug and play with any coach. We just went through that. We need someone very connected to nj .

His name is Nunzio and he’s HC this Saturday.

If local success and strong hs FB ties are important then why not consider hiring the Campanile family, incldg Anthony, to run the team going forward? Maybe bring in an experienced HC for a few years but gear the future leadership of the program to the Campaniles?

Almost like the Hurley’s in MBB.

How is this ridiculous? It will be difficult to fire him. Look at how people are pining for his rehire. Those same people will expect him to get as much time as he needs to turn things around. Once he gets 5 wins people will really give him carte Blanche because he is almost there.
Just remember we are in the B1G now so scheduling patsys will be limited. Eliminating some cakewalk wins. In the past he had trouble defending the Spread (Yes even at Ohio State) and many teams in the B1G run variations of it. I know if hired Schiano will work his tail off. I just dont know if that will be enough

I’m aware of the risk of playing pressure defense.

I’m an Eagles fan and saw Buddy Ryan’s and Jim Johnson’s (RIP) pressure schemes backfire spectacularly.

But playing bend-don’t-break against superior talent — well I assume you’ve been here the last three seasons.

For me, we need a scheme that fits the players we recruit. That’s the bottom line.

My other consideration is game-theory. If you are facing a superior opponent, you should prefer high-variance schemes, like a passing offense and pressure defense, IMO.

I’m no Schiano apologist. I just think our situation is unique and he’s the square peg that happens to fit the best in this round hole.

For the record, I would not be disappointed if it was Moorhead.

ANYONE who even knows Schiano a little, knows just how competitive he is.
