Our fanbase matches the programs energy.. Such a losers mentality to beg for this piss poor game day coach to be rehired. He's gonna scrap for 5-6 wins a year because that's all he'll be capable of in the b10. We're gonna get blown out alot too with this deer in the headlights schiano clown
We are supposed to believe that he has evolved and grown in his time away from Rutgers and he will better now at what was deficient in then.

He isn't even better at what he was good at then, which is defense! In his most recent coaching stint at OSU he had a worse defense than his predecessor and it looks like they have gotten better since he left as well.

Devil's advocate: He was hand picked by Lord Defense himself, Bill Belichick to be his Sith apprentice at New England.

The counterpoint to that is that the way the Patriots are structured, they have had stints totalling 4+ years when they haven't even had a defensive coordinator during Belicheck's tenure as coach. How important is that that Schiano was going to get a job they haven't even bothered filling when he left?

At this point I too think that Schiano is not a bad choice. He is only 53 years old. He has plenty of experience, has ties with Belichick and many other pros, and he is famous. He is a NJ guy and most high school coaches like him. Most other coaches I see mentioned I never even heard of. The most important thing is can Schiano still recruit. If so, then why not.

The OP is right - Give it three weeks and get him on-board. This idea that we have to interview people is so small time. We are not hiring a computer programmer etc. We pursue and negotiate - the formal interview is just another myth perpetuated on this board along with "oh my we have no money"
Every one took SHI fit when Shea took some time to move accross the country, but Gary if knew he is getting rehired
you say give him three more weeks, in the middle of the season, but Shea taking a few weeks in the off season was bad.
Double standard right?

With top talent on defense- He gave up 49pts to Purdue & 51pts to Maryland, then gave up 39 the next week to Psu. He sucks, and something tells me OSU doesn't miss him much

I didn't know that.

But the fact that he's highly regarded by BB means something.

And this isn't some lip-service praise like Walsh for Terry Shea.

BB was going to give Schiano the keys to his Ferrari.

I think Rutgers should retain Nunzio Campanile in some capacity if he is capable of holding the team together and RU scores a a TD or two. He is respected in the NJ coaching circles too.

Is Hobbs making it so GS doesn’t want the job so he can say there was no interest and he did not need to explore it further.

This is a concern to me. He needs to be reminded repeatedly that the hire is for Rogers not for Hobbs Inc

Hobbs has decided to be the decision maker in this HC search, while taking input from Greg Brown and his inner circle of advisers. Hobbs future at RU is dependent of making a good hire. He knows that.

So with his future on the line what if Hobbs is more confident in a prospective HC other than Greg? Why should he settle for Greg if he believes that another candidate is a better choice for RU? Because a cult of RU fans want Greg?

If Greg Brown wants Schiano he’d better convince Hobbs of that. It’s Hobbs neck and he seems willing to pick the guy who he thinks can make RU FB successful.

Cmon voice dictation

The fact that the decision will have effect on Hobbs is no comfort for anyone who wants to sit through another 4 to 5 year cycle of a square peg in around hole when the most clear and obvious choice is perhaps being alienated intentionally . Yes that is an unknown, but there are no press reports to the contrary in all that we do hear is that he’s doing everything he can to search for someone other than Gs, My point is that having coaches all share the same agent or having coaches who are easy to have under your thumb should not be the standard. It appears that every coach there is someone that is deferential to Hobbs. We have an athletic director who is likely too much in the public eye. There is a time that that is needed for fundraising but not as a constant measure. Hobbs seems Do you very much relish being the spokesman in the public face on a repeat basis not necessarily a bad thing but it is concerning as it could lead to a result that is more comfortable for him than it is good for rutgers

Hobbs is a football novice who has no idea what he's doing. I have zero confidence after his presser that he has the acumen to hire the correct person. But, I admit the guy can fundraise so there's a role for him here.

I respect Schiano for his recruiting while at RU and for improving our team and getting us to minor bowls but he was in the Big East and NEVER defeated West Virginia or Miami. What would he do with a 9 game BIG Ten schedule? we would definitely be improved but he could never schedule 4 or 5 sisters of the poor like he did every year. He is a control freak and he often spoke down to the media and fans. His defense at Ohio State was not very good considering the talent he coached. If he gets hired I will root for him and RU but I really don't know if he is the answer. I just can't see him beating the top teams in the BIG. If he gets hired he will probably once again proclaim he is here to win National Championships as he did at the Hale Center when he was hired as our coach years ago. I was there that day and I will never forget his predicting that. I believe there are other coaches out there who maybe can do a better job. No matter who gets the job it will take a few years before we make another bowl game.

Hobbs is already patting himself on the back for getting back the over 10,000 season tickets sales he lost.

There is no guarantee he gets them back anytime soon.
No one has the juice or the splash you need. Miss St., and Pitt are better jobs than Rutgers. Why would any sitting head coach leave his program just to be fired in three years. You guys wanted the BIG 10 and you got it. Enjoy being the bottom feeders for life. Schiano is the best you guys can do, and if it wasn't for his scandals, he wouldn't even sniff your job.
and happy day to you too.

It makes perfect sense that the people who so desperately want Schiano would want the deal done Right Now. After all, we know from the television commercials that any erection lasting longer than 3 hours is a medical emergency.

Rutgers Fans

My apologies for some of the comments my fellow Pitt fan made above. This discussion is all about Rutger's future, period.

My uninformed view is that the next hire will be a very good one, considering the significant Big Ten revenues that will be coming-in starting in 2021. Conducting the coach evaluation process now gives you a substantial advantage over other schools that will traditionally look for a new coach in December.

Reading your comments above, Schiano appears to be the preferred and, possibly, logical choice. However, I don't know how successful he can be the second time around. As the expression goes, you can never go back (but there is always the exception).

In any case, you guys and gals are diehard fans and you certainly deserve a break.

Best of luck

I agree . We are not some directional Michigan university that has a revolving door of coaches from all walks of life. Our situation is unique and we can’t ust plug and play with any coach. We just went through that. We need someone very connected to nj .

Lmao.. You just says this, because you don't wanna see Rutgers reach it's potential. If Rutgers actually got a good coach, it would shut Pitt outta Jersey

Honestly Schiano is the only logical choice, and should of been hired yesterday.

I fear Rutgers is going to screw up ,and hire the has been. He is only taking the job to bring his family back to
Jersey. If he gets fired he won't have to work for the rest of his life anyway, if RU is stupid enough to hire him, they
have to realize he is in a no lose position. He won't have to keep chopping, and not even have a work in progress.
He knows he will probably fail, but when he sees what McNulty and Ash walked away with, he knows he can get 10x that amt.

Yeah, beat us like a drum. You guys are 8-22 lifetime against Pitt. Yeah you had a good run against us when we put ourselves through coaching change purgatory, but that’s it. I just came here to see who you guys might be considering for your head coaching job, and one of your posters commented poorly on Narduzzi. I had to give you guys my opinions after that, so here I am. The sad part is you know I speak the truth. That’s why it hurts so bad. Oh, and by the way Michigan just scored again. Get used to it! It’s going to be a long season.
I don't know you speak the truth. I wasn't alive for many of the wins you had against us, but I was alive when Schiano regularly kicked your *** in embarrassing fashion.

We would lose to a lot of teams, but we always managed to kick your sorry asses.

No one here gives a rat's *** about your has been program. That's why no RU fans go to your site.

Geez, there are more PSU fans in Pittsburg than there are PITT fans. That is how much of a joke you are.

Now go back to the little tiny, little corner of Pennsylvania where you live (because god knows the other 99 percent of the state of PA roots for PSU).
Your obsession with RU speaks volumes about you. Now just leave.

We won our division in the ACC last year, you guys are never, and I mean never going to be able to say that. Those glory days of Ray Rice are long gone. You guys continually get beat out for top NJ recruits by PSU, and even Pitt. Wake up. Pitt would beat you 10 out of 10 times. You are the worst team in your conference, and that is unlikely to chance. EVER!
The glory days of Tony Dorsett are gone even longer.

Hey slow your roll their buddy. You're projecting an awful lot. I liked Schiano while he was here. Never said a bad word against him. Still haven't if you've been paying attention.
Let's review:

Knightmoves says: "If Greg comes back and underperforms as HC at RU the Greg posse will blame it on Hobbs and everyone else, including RU fans. It’s already baked into the cake."

Then you say: "Not if....when. So why bother?"

And I reply: "That is simply not true. If GS underperforms even his fans will say it." and go on to assume you are among the critics...

So I ask you, if you agree with the inevitability of the "Greg Posse" blaming Schiano's predicted failure on "Hobbs and everyone else".. how am I supposed to distinguish you from GS critics?

Pittfest, they insulted Narduzzi, please don’t apologize for me, they deserve what they get. And to top it all off, I’m not wrong.
There are only a couple of fans arguing with you 540. We all still remember when your school made the banner for our #52 and will never forget. We may also be interested in Narduzzi as a coach. All a coach has to do is get a couple of D lineman from the juco ranks or transfers that can play right away. RU already has the skill players in place. You can see what I mean from the BC game highlights.

We don't actually know that the Schiano "hire" wasn't a bluff run by BB to help his friend look better after just getting fired at OSU. That would certainly explain the hire/resign thing.

And while that might sound like a stretch, it's even harder to explain why GS would give up the money and prestige of winning a Superbowl with the Patriots just to come coach at RU.

I view the entire Patriots thing very skeptically. Either it was planned that he'd resign before he got hired or he had an affair and the wife made him quit. Which is often what happens when people resign citing the whole "faith and family" BS.
