They aren't wrong. There are, at a minimum, 5-15 guys who are definitely better than Wiseman right now. In 2-4 years, Wiseman could be the best player in the class (I still think Cole will be the best).
.
Wiseman is a long, athletic C. Who shows promise wrt perimeter skills.
.
Wiseman is the only POTENTIAL unicorn in this class. He could grow into that 6-11+, athletic, perimeter skilled, ultra versatile C that NBA teams desire (though no one has won ish with one yet).
.
But Wiseman won't be that in college. He'll be "good." But he won't be a Bagley level player, much less a Davis or KAT level player. If you knew you'd have Wiseman for 2-3 years, great. For a OAD year, he won't put many teams over the top. If he'd play a smart role in college, great. I think he wants to dominate the ball, which won't really work out for team success.

I really don’t know anything about him. #1 all I know. I just quoted them people becuase that’s usually how they are when they miss on a player.

Hardly a consensus number 1, and those that do freely admit that it is because of his insane upside. He's got ideal height, length, and athleticism. And he exhibits the burgeoning skills, particularly on the perimeter, that make NBA teams salivate. He has the potential to be an MVP caliber player. Only two other players really share that, in Cole Anthony and Carey. Given the nature of the game, I'm not sure Carey has much of a chance to approach MVP caliber play, and Cole is maybe 1-2 inches shorter than "Ideal" at PG. At 6-2, Cole has great height, but GMs would love it is Cole had his exact game and skill and athleticism, but were 1-2 inches taller.
.
Wiseman could be a superstud, closer to Davis or the Greek Freak, but he's got a long way to go. He'll be very good vs college defenses. But in his one year, several will be better from his class.

Vernon Carey JR will be a much better 1 year college player than Wiseman, he's more skilled and developed.
Wiseman has a higher ceiling 5 years down the road, but he's still a tad raw. He is oozing with length, athleticism, and potential.
It's really that basic.

From what I have seen from some of Vernon’s high school games, he needs to work on his defensive game. Sometimes he seems lethargic to downright lazy at times on the defensive side of the ball.

I've watched/read the same thing. However, he is still hands down the most talented big in the class. Wiseman has a higher ceiling, and Stewart may be a better defender right now, but Carey is the best player.

If we wanna have a chance at a national title next year, we need either Carey or Stewart. Stewart is safe, but Carey has that "it" factor: if the defensive light bulb turns on for him, he could be the best college player in the country next year.
Also remember....a lot of people questioned how good Zion would be defensively at this time last year.

Just saw this gem of a post about Zion, RJ and Cam on RR “All its going take is the big 3 being cold on the same night to be a defeat for the wrong team. All 3 going cold is more likely then 3 getting hot (like they were against us). I typed it word for word from the poster on RR, so the grammatical errors are there’s not mine. lol

There are more sour grapes over there than there is in an entire winery
