Highlights and Thoughts on Late No-Call

I'm about sick of hearing about the late no-call between Gabriel and Davis. I don't feel bad about that for even one second. The refs were swallowing their whistles all night when it came to interior play. Just watch these highlights and count the number of times our guys should have had an and-1, but no call. And looking at that last play (which is the last thing on the video), yes Gabriel was holding Davis as the play began, but it was a good no-call for at least 2 reasons. 1. The pass was not catchable. It grazed the underside of the rim and Davis was in the middle of the lane. Unless Davis could add about 3 feet to his vertical, he's not catching that ball. 2. To be consistent with the way things were being called all night, that's a no call.

I agree. Plus, Davis had his right arm ready to push off WG, if he wasn't doing it already... and the refs would not have whistled him (unless it was a shot to WG's face, maybe) for that at the end, either.

Like it or not, the refs do have a situational approach as the clock expires. Just remember Fox's drive at the end of the 1st half against UNCheat.

I missed the last 2 minutes do to recording errors but have watched it on video replay. It appears that since
Davis fell down that Gabriel somehow was responsible? I don't think Gabriel could physically stop Davis from catching a pass under the basket if he had to short of physically holding both his arms. With all the pushing that they allow under the basket and the contact our guards take with no calls on drives, the slight lean on Davis was probably not even noticeable by Davis at the time.

The blocking call they called on Sasha comes to mind as the worst, obvious call they missed that resulted in A&M getting free throws as a result. Even Bilas agree it was total garbage.

It's easy to point to a call at the end of the game that could have/should have gone another way. There are countless calls in every game that could swing things one way or the other. SKJ getting clocked in the head on his put-back dunk. Any number of charge calls going against us.

At the end of the day the call wasn't given and the game shows up as a W for us.

What I feel bad about is the fact the we did foul him. That is crazy if you think about it! Gabriel acted like it was the first minute of the game or we had a ten point lead!

I just hate the play if I'm A&M. You can get to the rim in 3.9 seconds. Have a guard catch it on the run. They had time to get a good shot off. Throwing it ahead to a posted up player being fronted at the end of the game is just low positive expected value to me

Funny, I just watched a replay of the 1st half and thought it called okay overall. The foul on KJ at the end of the half was horrible. That one was inconsistent with the way block/charge is normally called.

Not only did I not feel bad about it , I celebrated it , relished it , hope to relive it , it was like being Duke for 3 seconds ( as far as officiating goes) . That BS loss down there with Hump and the T cost us some serious seeding that year.

Wenyen would have blocked Davis anyway, so we should be complaining that he didn’t get that chance.

A "take down" with time on the clock is a foul. Doesn't matter if the ball was catchable or not. A player should NEVER risk the outcome of a game on Doug Shows' whistle. That being said I hope we don't have to play A&M again this season.

I love my blue tinted glasses but that was absolutely a foul on Wenyen. I coach my son’s youth basketball team and a ref asked them to define a foul . They gave 8 different answers. In the end -my answer was whatever the referee calls a foul. They didn’t call it so that is end of story. Did feel like karma and a little retribution for the horrible technical on Hump.

The winners walk out laughing the losers cry deal again. I never like to see a blown call, as many as we have had to swallow with far greater things at stake(last season UNC) don't feel bad because we had one to go our way.

Besides, my workers (UL guys) said this is why they call it Rape Arena!
Why all the fuss anyway: UK finally gets a good no-call and everyone is crying about it.
Its OK this is normal stuff at Duke, UNC.

Why is this questionable call any different then some of the other questionable calls that wasn't called during the game?
A 6'10" 265 pound man getting thrown to the floor by a 190lb soaking wet man is funny anyway.

It was a judgement call. Ball was not catchable. Gabriel held him, but the A&M player was pushing. Could the call have been made? Yes. Was it a mandatory call? No. Are such calls typically made in the last 5 seconds? No. C’est La Vie.

Now we have to realize this when calls go against us. The call on Hump being a case in point. Again, a judgement call. Hump put the ref in play, but over nothing more objectionable than exuberance. Ref made the call.

I think we are just all in shock. We don't know how to react when we get a call/no-call that goes in our favor!

This is truly the case,what Gabriel did had no effect on anything.We have seen other teams(Duke,KU,UNC and a dozen others) get the benefit of multiple no calls that HAD a direct effect on the outcome of games.I could list examples but we all can think of as many as we would like and still leave out plenty

It is uncharted territory for us because we get one about every 10 years or so.The more troubling thing is that we put ourselves in the position to have such a call/no call matter when we didn't have to do so. Call it basketball IQ,freshman inexperience or whatever you like we did enough stuff in the last minute to beat ourselves but we got away with it.

Feel bad about it,don't be silly,try to fix what we did wrong and move on to the next game.
