Thinking about early November mountain trip. Someone on SPS suggested Highlands awhile back. Who has been there ? Suggestions for cabin rental companies, restaurants, hikes, anything else appreciated. Thanks.

Highlands is a great town for walking around and just hanging out. It has been so long I can’t remember the exact places to suggest but I had a blast. However in November you are taking a chance with some pretty heavy snow.

Quaint little town with antique shops and a several restaurants. You will be fine in November. Nothing exciting there only about 1000 people. Pretty area.

I'm posting this from my folks' get-away house on a mountain between Highlands, Cashiers, & Franklin. I believe Highlands is the most "touristy" of the 3. Though it's been a while since I've been to Franklin.

Plenty of neat waterfalls & trails to take in. There's a good Brewery/Restaurant in Cashiers. Highlands has a good tavern named something Dog. 3 Dog Night maybe. Don't have great service up here or I'd look it up.

It's a great area with great weather. I'll try to post more details when I get back to society... unfortunately.

Ugly dog. Good bar food and it's usually packed on football game days.

Cool town. Great sights if you like hiking or waking up and having coffee on the back porch and hanging out. Old Edwards hotel is nice with a spa if you're into that.

Wife and were at the Highlands last March (2020) just before COVID shut everything down. We loved Highlands, very laid back town in the Mountains. Several nice trails and waterfalls around…..Old Edwards Inn is the high dollar Hotaling with a great bar and restaurant.

we will definitely go back one day

It’s basically an enclave for all the Atlanta ‘mountain folk’. Full of BMW X7s and Porsche Cayenne mountain trucks driven by guys with Patagonia vests and Gucci loafers.

If fancy restaurants, shopping, a nice spa, and rubbing elbows on the crowded sidewalks at altitude are your thing, you’ll like it.

If hiking, fishing, mountain biking are your thing, there are better places, not that you couldn’t do it.

We’ve stayed in the Cashiers area a few times over the years and always will drive over to Highlands at least once. Wife and kid like it ok. Wife would love to stay at OE Inn, but we’ve not done that.

Can attest to the Atlanta mountain mafia. Went to the north Georgia mountains with my son last year. It was beautiful, but everywhere was so, so crowded. And packed with sports cars racing up and down the mountain roads. Of course, he’s one of them, but it was kind of sad to see.

Stay at the Old Edward Inn. You’re welcome. Oh, and eat at the Ugly Dog Saloon (or pub). On Tuesdays they have local mountain music.
