Seniors at Mississippi High Schools have played their last baseball/softball game, won’t have a prom, graduation senior play etc... I know the MHSAA put out a statement that they will re-evaluate in 2 weeks, but let’s be realistic it’s over for them...

My wife thought I was crazy last Wednesday night when I said they'd be out till end of March or possibly Easter. Doesn't sound so crazy now. This is slowing becoming an event that we'll talk about for the rest of our lives. The Spring 2020 coronavirus pandemic

Yesterday Dr. wright recommended to the SBE that appeals should be made immediately to the feds that all accountability and assessments for this school year be suspended.

That puts the writing on the wall for schools going back.

So any students who were borderline for graduation and needed some magic in the last 9 weeks... it’s your lucky year!

Go forth with your Corona Diploma!

Yup- but they are also 17 or 18 and these changes are to help ensure they are all able to live long full lives.
It sucks in the immediate and at that age the world naturally revolves around them so it may seem devastating at the time, but with time and maturity all should recognize how unimportant prom or a baseball season in the grand scheme of things.

Any parent of a high school senior should have already had this talk with their kid(s) so it isnt a surprise if/when the cancellations happen.

Prom isn't school sponsored generally. They can have it if they find a venue. Hell, they've all been home. Not like they've been exposed much.

As a spring head coach, it’s bitter sweet. This was my last year as HC as my I’m focusing all of my time on football next year, but my team is one of 2-3 teams that were favored to win the state title this year. I’ll always wonder would could have been.
What I really hate is for the borderline kids who are using this season to get scholarship offers. They may never get the chance that they would have had they been able to compete for the entire season.

There is a very realistic possibility that schools won’t reconvene at all this school year.

I don't think they'll go back to school before the normal school year has ended, but I suppose they could reconvene in the summer (whenever the threat of infection is past), and then just continue into the new school year in the fall. There's no reason proms and the like couldn't be held in July or August.

Maybe, but a diligent parent wouldn't allow their child to attend. Just postpone the prom until the summer, or whenever it's safe to have it. There's no need to tempt fate.

Is probably one of the smaller risks on prom night.
