I don’t understand

The necessity to drop f bombs and other forms of profanity in every conversation. Not saying he should be fired.

I was coached by all types of coaches. I grew up where that was normal speech out on the streets. When I went south it was frowned upon in certain company and ok in other groups. Coach Polk would NEVER have given that speech. So I understand both sides of the issue. Back in the day we had a little sayin'. Someone would say "Let's talk pro ball" and the response was "**** <17>, piss".

Now if he was berating the players, the I would be a little more concerned.

Rule 17 is no Fbombs in SUBJECT line. I spelled it out in the main body in the talking pro ball response and it got automatically replaced with ****.

I don't agree with the language used, but as a former athlete, I get it. Not a fire-able offense IMO unless there's more that we do not know.

I work as a contractor for the US Navy. Cussing is just part of conversation here. It is very hard to turn off when I leave the gates every day.

Article says the coach was fired after winning a state championship. When was he fired....last May/June?

They just started the 2020 season in Florida so I’m guessing he wasn’t fired in the last month or 2 unless they have a fall ball season that ends with a state tournament. Down there I guess they very well could.

Coach probably should have cut down on the # of 17’s he threw out....7 of them in a “25 second 42 word” speech is a little much. But that’s not a reason for him to lose his job. If he had been berating a player probably but if he had been berating the team for poor play then NO I don’t think this coach or any other HS coach should be fired for saying 17 in a speech to their team after a poor performance on the field.

Kids, parents, school administrations and this country in general have gotten too soft over the last several years.

My HS football coach was an absolute master at incorporating F bombs into every motivational, inspirational or *** chewing sentence he ever uttered. Used the word as every known part of speech with ease and accuracy.

He taught me so much. The man was an artist...

Thank God. High school students really aren't old enough for such foul language. He should of been using the terms 'gee wilikers', 'shucks', and 'gull darnit'. Much more appropriate for children that age. Naughty words are one of the biggest problems facing our young and impressionable high school students.

Guess the administration has never been on a playing field of any type. It was even during a positive speech because they had just won a Championship

Petition backs Florida HS baseball coach fired for cursing after winning championship

This is what happens when people started apologizing years ago because some cuck got offended instead of telling them to 17 off and grow a pair. It has now snowballed to people getting fired for saying a word. I absolutely despise what society has become. A bunch of young soft pussies getting offended at everything.

Maybe there was really some other reason or reasons they wanted him gone and this was just the final straw.

A guy I played ball with in high school became the coach of the team a couple years ago. He ended up getting let go because he made kids run poles if they were cussing, slacking off, etc and the parents complained he was too hard on them.

Now he's at our school's rival high school and whipping our tails.

I'm reading Leach's book and some of the punishments he devised were awesome. I especially like the Tower of London. I hope he still does that.

He must have got on the wrong kid.... my son plays baseball, never misses practice (except when he was sick with a Dr excuse, then he had to do punishment for missing) never late, does his working on the field duties, etc and probably gets yelled at more than most... but there are some “chosen” on the team that have never even so much as helped rake the field and never get yelled at.... depends on who the parents or grandparents are...

Intelligent people swear more. It just doesn't fit into the "moral" way of doing things. Most of those HS kids swear, drink, have sex, etc. Should they be removed from school? Nope.
And they learn it mostly from their parents and other adults. Should they be ridiculed? Nope

exactly. Plus the AD used to be a coach at Virginia Tech and is just riding out his time until retirement... he doesn't really care much.

Studies have proven it.

I once had the best neurosurgeon I know tell me, “I sewed that sumbitch up in a way that it’ll never come loose.” Over a decade later, it hasn’t.

it's common language in a lot of places that i work and travel. it's just the vernacular used. i grew up in an area and in a culture that certain words are bad, but as i got older and traveled more, the more I came to find the concept kind of interesting. It's a cultural thing. Some words are "bad" in this culture while others are not. it's taboo in some areas to use certain words, but in other settings it's just normal language. The coach probably went over the line in his cultural setting. i find it odd that certain words are considered curse words. if you replace the word but continue the meaning isn't that word now bad? that people that say gosh darnit or shoot instead of other curse words aren't really do anything different instead of using 17. because they really don't mean 17 the act when they are saying it in most cases. its the expression of anger, frustration, or disbelief. saying **** or *** in one culture doesn't mean the same those words can mean different things depending on the reasons that they were used. i find it odd that some "curse" words are bleeped out on television and others are not. i find it funny that there is a ranking for those words and some are ok and some are not. some words may drop out and some may be added.

Did he weave a tapestry of 17 bombs that as far as we know still hangs over Lake Michigan? (Name the movie)

This is not my fight

but, I suspect that this guy has had a history of F-bombs, and has been counseled on the matter.

Probably a good guy, just ...his language gets in the way.
