Honestly, this, what we’re seeing right now, could’ve been avoided. That’s just reality.
I guess what I'm suggesting is that Iraq had a longer history of a secular society while Afghanistan is still highly affected/impacted by their religion. And the Taliban carries weight because of it. I don't know, just a suggestion.
Actually, the religious aspect is not the factor you think it is in AFG. That’s far more prevalent in Iraq.
The reality is that the AFGs have survived millennia’s by appeasing whatever conquering nation took possession of their country. The average AFG just wants to survive and to do that, they’ll go along with whatever and whoever comes to power, be it Russian’s, Talis, US, Mongols, Macedonians, Persians, etc.
We, by our actions, signaled they were on their own. All we had to do was continue what we were doing, keep training, keep funding, and keep providing them with Intel to help them fight. We weren’t really expending US lives or really putting anyone into harms way, beyond JSOC folks. Once we showed we didn’t care what happened, it was an easy decision for them. They have no national pride because they have no nation, they have rulers.
