I will admit that I have always thought it was an auto "T". I really hated it for Hump after he played tonight. As has been stated it was only out of excitement for his potential game winning play that he did it. Wasn't disrespecting the official at all. And it was clear Adams recognized that, yet still called what evidently was not required.

Now I am really pissed. The NCAA should toss every one of these "look at me" refs. Valentine, Adams, Sirmins, etc etc. Would go a lon way toward making games much easier to watch.

Everyone knows you don't throw or slam the ball. He made it too easy to call it. Now if we wanna talk removing the rule completely, I'm with you.

Isn't it something that the preening refs have made so many people think that was an automatic T?

Bad call. Let the players decide the outcome. Emotion is part of the game.

That action was not unsportsmanlike and after speaking to a number of Officals the feeling is you can pass on that call.

Obviously none of those refs Seth is talking about works in the SEC. As Bilas said "I guess we're back to the playground now". SMH

Two weeks straight now that UK is at the heart of some drama caused by an half-assed moron of a ref contracted by the SEC. Nice going dickheads in Birmingham, way to make this league look like ****.
More than 2 weeks straight. Wasn't the Kansas debacle the week before that ? Either way we we haven't had a well officiated game all year. Refs might not have decided all the games but they were terrible for all of them.

It's always been bad going on the road in the SEC, but this year is the worst I've EVER seen. You can't even watch the damn game anymore for all the bogus one-sided calls. I hate officials!

I've never been one to want "breaks" from officials...just don't screw us. Is it too much to ask for a fairly-called game? At this point I say yes.

I swear, at this point I'm so mad I could chew lead and spit bullets.

Class A Unsporting Technical Infractions

Art. 1. A player or substitute committing an unsportsmanlike act including, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Disrespectfully addressing an official or gesturing in such a manner as to indicate resentment.
  2. Using profanity or vulgarity; taunting, baiting or ridiculing another player or bench personnel; or pointing a finger at or making obscene gestures toward another player or bench personnel.
  3. Inciting undesirable crowd reaction.
  4. Contacting an opponent, while the ball is dead, in an unnecessary, unacceptable and excessive manner.
  5. Flagrantly (severe or extreme) contacting an opponent while the ball is dead.
  6. A flagrant noncontact infraction that involves extreme, sometimes persistent, vulgar, abusive conduct when the ball is dead or live.
  7. Participating after having been disqualified (noncontact flagrant 2 technical).
  8. Leaving the playing court and going into the stands when a fight may break out or has broken out (flagrant noncontact infraction).
  9. Fighting as in Rule 10-5.
  10. Disrespectfully contacting an official
As you can see, what Humphries did is not listed.
What you said is correct...and the call was horrible. But it is considered "unsportsmanship" to slam the ball down in frustration or a taunting way. Things like that are not in the rules but are explained in the "Case Book".

As you can see, what Humphries did is not listed. It would fall under the discretion of the officials. Pat Adams did not have to give Humphries a T because he was excited about making a potential game winning play. Don't let anyone tell you differently. It IS NOT the rule.
Every time I hear his name, one response, F HIM! I still hope his car breaks down in Harlan County one day.

The problem is if the roles are reversed, people who are on here griping about it, would be on here saying a T should of been called and citing the USC game as an example. And you know you would be. It's a crappy way to lose the game but you move on from it, learn from it , and that's it. You can't do that stuff, no matter how you feel, the announcers feel, or the coach feels.

too much on the line to make that call imo. not only did adams determine the outcome of a game on what could have easily been a no call, he might have also taken away a regular season championship from UK. definitely a questionable call.....possible ulterior motives on this one. like someone said...he saw his chance and took it.

Pat Adams could have just cost KY its slim chance of a 1 seed. What a turd.

So, you're saying Hump slammed the ball down in a "unsportsmanlike way or was exhibiting frustration or taunting"? Please explain which it was and how you know this was the case.
The kid seemed pumped up that TAMU missed the shot, he got the board and was headed to the line to try and seal the win.

Unsportsmanlike conduct has always been. "T" and throwing the ball down on the floor has always been considered unsportsmanlike conduct.

Another screw job by the SEC. They know UK can still stay on top in the standings and give A&M another win. They are trying to see how many teams they can get into the big tournament. Watch how many bull **** calls there will be in the SEC tournament.

Since we can only control what we do how about telling the players not to slam the ball down. We now know they are calling it.

Me and my dad were talking about this and SEC officiating in general. He said that one year UK was playing at Knoxville and the refs let Ernie Grunfeld shoot every free throw, even when he wasn't the one that got fouled. A UK fan ran down from the stands at half time, confronted Coach Hall who was apparently unaware, and asked him why are you allowing them to do this?

Officiating in this conference is a joke and always has been, and not to the benefit of UK despite the popular myth that some enjoy propagating.
